Impact of History in France
Introduction
Today the people of France have considered the need and relevance of equality. They are
usually quick to respond to anything that seems not to work on their side. This can be attributed
to the events of the French Revolution. The French Revolution took place between 1989 and
1799. This was the most radical event in the country’s history. The French Revolution came at a
time when enlightenment was needed to address the obstacles that had faced the society. Such
obstacles included things like famine, poor governance and continued level of inequality. It
became a remarkable event during the enlightenment period. Today, the current events taking
place in the country seem to compare to the historical events during the revolution and
concurrent history. According to various historical evidences, France had remained under the
absolute monarch for very long but the revolution led to its collapse within less than four years.
During the period, the country’s society and political structure transformed to what would
become the new era of European enlightenment. Following the collapse of the monarchy and
establishment of a new order, new governance was formed thereby redefining the future of the
country. In this paper, a deep-cutting discussion will be offered to relate the history of France
and what is happening in the country today.

How the History of France after the Revolution Relates to What is Happening in the Country
Today
Today we have similar situations faced in France. For instance, the people have been
complaining about the issues taking place in the country and are also quick to lose their trust and
patience. It is worth noting that the French Revolution redefined France’s future. It is worth
noting that the years of the revolution played a significant role towards giving birth to a new
French society, and even a new world order. Today we have the people being keen to examine
whatever is taken place around them and offer their critical response. This has been a common
practice throughout the establishment and political development in the country.
This new order is believed to have been the reformation and realization of new strategies
and ideas that never existed before the period. During the period before the revolution, it was
observed that France had been a backward nation. This was because of the increased levels of
inequality, poor governance and societal imbalances. The kingdom lived a better life while
ignoring the prosperity of the people (Berndtson 2). There was the need for change and
reestablishment. This would propel the society to a new direction thereby bringing forth the
country we know today as France. Today the people of France are ready to revolve and orient the
country to a better position.
In the recent past, we had Sarkozy who was to the far right on the political scale to
Hollande who in on the far left. This resulted in totally different political views. This has been
considered by analysts as a situation whereby the French people tend to lose their confidence
easily. This explains why they have lost confidence in Hollande so quickly. This could be used to
indicate that, as the history of the country portrays, there is the culture of the French people to
complain and consider new tactics to address the problems affecting them.
Surname 3
Taking a short examination of history, the events led to new establishments and ideas that
had never existed before. The history of France shows that after the end of the revolution a new
period was established. This made it the beginning of a new dawn that has been in practice until
the present day and France and the whole world. It is through this kind of establishment that the
modern French society can be characterized as a development arising from the events of the
revolution and historical aftermath. This is the same issue today with many people considering
the best ideas and practices that do not fulfill their expectations.
In the same historical achievements, a new political order is established and practiced
until this present day. The people are willing to consider the issues faced and offer instant
feedbacks to address them. many people including women and young men are part of the
political process thereby making it a field for every individual who wishes to change or
implement new policies for the goodness and wellbeing of the greatest majority. This
enlightened more people and as a result achieve firsthand experience in various issues such as
politics and religious developments. A new order and political establishment was developed
during the period (Berndtson 3). The country considers new policies and promotes the views,
rights and opinions of many people in the society. It was a new beginning with a new societal
order established.
Throughout the past decades, the events resulting from the country’s history have been
significant towards redefining the history of the country. The new wave of republicanism was
developed whereby every individual was responsible for the society and its success. It became
the order of the day and the reason the same thing has remained relevant till this present day
(Acemoglu 43). From the political positions of the French people, and the whole world, it would
be observed that the products of the country’s history brought new ideas and understanding that

helped reshape the politics and social aspects of the society. This explains why the history of
France could be considered essential towards bringing about new ideas and concepts that have
redefined the society until our present day. The current French society is therefore a replica of
the ideas and views developed after the revolution.
According to historians, the history of France brought a new wave of transformation
whereby the people underwent a new form of transformation. A new identity was formed thereby
redefining the future of the people. Some of the ideas borrowed from the historic development
included the realization of human rights. Today the French society believes in the rights of all
people (Jervis 18). This was a new development realized during the era of enlightenment. During
the period, more people wanted to be free and have their own human rights. During the years
before the French Revolution, it occurred that some people from the monarchy had the
privileges. The historical development and path of France led to the replacement of such
provides with a new set of human rights. This is the common practice existing in the country
today.
The historical events and developments identified in the history of the country seem to
represent most of the dramatic changes and significant events that led to new ideas and a wave of
enlightenment. The revolution was a new beginning and a period for change towards the best
incentives and ideas that would promote the success of the country. In the earlier years, the
country had been characterized by declining social positions and poor living conditions. It was
the need to reform and bring about new ideas. Because of the strength and significance of the
revolution, the people were able to absorb new ideas and political democracy (Aftalion 18).
In France today, the property rights and ownership of assets is something that has been
practiced for decades. Following the achievements after the end of the revolution, people became
Surname 5
autonomous such that they could possess property and maintain their own social position. As a
result, it was possible for the people to purchase and possess property (Acemoglu 76). This is
something that has remained unique and characteristic of the French society. A new form of tax
system was established in the country during the same historical period. What happened was that
the people were no longer divided into certain class. Every person was equal to each other and
social agenda including taxation would be applied equally. This became a classical development
and establishment that is in practice till our present day.
For very many years, the people of France had been victims of oppression. This affected
their welfare and even made it impossible for them to achieve various ideas and concepts that
would promote their position in the society. The historical period was the right time for new
ideas towards liberation. A new societal order was established whereby the people could access
some of the critical rights and freedom. The French people were able to promote new tools such
as healthcare, infrastructure and proper government. Educational processes were established
throughout the country thereby becoming the foundation towards future growth and
sustainability. This critical development eventually led to the greatest gains in the country. Until
this modern day, it is notable that the political and social foundations in the country are the ones
that were established in the country during the historical period following the end of the French
Revolution (Aftalion 22).
During the period, the new establishment threatened many rulers because it seemed to
present a new set of concepts and ideas towards governance. This is the reason some historians
believe that majority of the European leaders during the historical period felt threatened by the
new order that was being established in France. For instance, there was the need for equality,
human freedom, and provision of equal opportunities. With many dynasties and societies
Surname 6
oppressing the people, it was the right time for a new order and establishment in different parts
of the world. This empowered the people of France and considered the best ideas towards a new
economic consideration (Aftalion 23).
Following the end of the bloodiest revolution, the aristocracies were abolished and
equality developed. As a result, more people considered their economic position. It was the time
to consider the best strategies and ideas through which the greatest gains could be realized from
the process. During the time, the people were willing to invest and this led to the industrialization
and enlightenment period. The wave was very strong such that new inventions were observed
during the historical period. The people of France were engaged in various activities such as
agriculture and even industrial practices (Aftalion 87). Different industries emerged throughout
the country thereby creating a new position for the country. The new ideas became very critical
because they continued to empower the people and eventually a new economic powerhouse
began to develop. It was because of such kind of development that the country has remained a
leading economic powerhouse in the whole of Europe.
This discussion shows that the revolution was a critical historical event that led to the
establishment of a new society. The republic was established after a new government was
formed thereby making France a sovereign nation. New committees and National Assembly was
formed thereby redefining the political position of various leaders in the country. In terms of
social and political gains, it would be observed that the revolution was a great achievement
because a better order would be established (Jervis 5). In the coming years, the same kind of
development continued to exist as more ideas and strategies became common. The next years
continued to promote the issue of democracy with the state remaining an individual body from
the church. This continues to inspire a new societal order whereby the population would be
Surname 7
concerned about the best ideas and strategies towards better social development. This is the same
order and social position that is found in France today.
Today the people of France have a good government, have their human rights and
liberties provided, and have freedom as citizens of the country. These relevant developments and
possessions resulted from the French Revolution and the years after the historical event. Many
people are successful in the country because of the major gains and successes resulting from the
history of the country (Jervis 6). However, the ideas of the revolution still exist today with the
people being ready to revolve as it is the case with what is happening the country’s parliament.
It is common for the people to pursue their own goals, something that has been rather
essential towards the understanding of France, as we know it today. In the country, people’s right
is a major issue safeguarded under the constitution. The best elements of governance and
economic growth were drawn during the historical period. It is agreeable that the study of French
history is an important endeavor that seeks to highlight some of the achievements and economic
developments that led to new ideas and concepts about the establishment of a society.
From the current events such as social order, economic development and government, it
would be agreeable that there is direct relationship between the same and what was established
following the end of the French Revolution. It would be notable that the events behind the
revolution including whatever took place in the following years became the benchmark through
which the society of France was established. The country succeeded from the historical events by
realizing the greatest ideas that led to the establishment of a sovereign nation.
Today, the foundations such as education, healthcare, equality, gender parity and
provision of human rights are an establishment that resulted from the historical events after the
French Revolution. As discussed above, Sarkozy has been on the far right on the political scale
Surname 8
to Hollande who in on the far left. The result has been in total different political views. Analysts
have considered this as a situation whereby the French people tend to lose their confidence
easily. This explains why they have lost confidence in Hollande so quickly. This therefore
indicates that, as the history of the country portrays, there is the culture of the French people to
complain and consider new tactics to address the problems affecting them.
Conclusion
From the above discussion, it would be observed that the history of France after the
revolution relates to what is happening in the country today. The recent changes in the French
Governemnt and Parliament can be seen and related to the events of the revolution. Issues of
proper governance, better service provision and issues of equality were founded during the
historical period. Today we have new issues related to economic development and sustainability.
Such ideas were borrowed after the revolution. The revolution was a form of enlightenment that
has characterized the society until this present day. The people of France are free, equal and
developed. There is democracy in the country because of the lessons and ideas learned from the
history of the country. It is therefore agreeable that history is relevant towards understanding our
past and using the same ideas towards our future development.
