Abortion and Women's Rights.
In 2013, four women died because of complications from an induced abortion. In the
period between 1973 to 2012, 431 women died from abortion complication (Judith, 87). Men
who wanted to have sexual intercourse with no obligations put pressure on women to have an
abortion, giving up their own right to control their body.Women who are forced to have
abortions are giving up their right as a woman to control their own body. After an abortion
procedure, there are many health side effects of nausea, bleeding, vomiting and cramps. Most
women also go thru depression because of an abortion. The significance of my research paper is
women having the rights to their own bodies and not being forced to do anything they are not
willing to do.
In defining the key terms, abortion is described as a medical procedure that terminates
pregnancy before the full development of an embryo prior to 9 months. Besides, the pro-choice
is the proposing side arguing that women freedom to control their bodies is provided by the
abortion rights. Conversely, the Anti-choice claims that abortion is a form of murder even if it is
looked at all dimensions. Life was ordained by God and it is a gift that no person should take a
hand to terminate or influence a process that can harm the young life (Fine et al., 74). Apart from
that, legal and the reproductive rights relates to human reproduction and reproductive health
which vary in different states in the world. Consequently, suction abortion can be defined as the
elimination of the tissue from the womb through a thin tube (Michael, 35). Finally, women right
are policies that strike the balance between the legal and the social equality in both human
genders.
Abortion is a source of health risks that originate from the reproductive related diseases.
It is evident that abortion exposes the victim to high chances of infection, increased bleeding,
perforation and incomplete abortion which may result into health hazards (Bere, 18). Abortion is
also related to psychological depression, perennial mental problems such as panic, post-traumatic
disorder and abuse of substances. To counter the argument, surgical abortion is preferable
because it is effective and have fewer infection risks as compared to medical abortion which has
many failures (Michael, 34). The commonly applied procedure is the suction abortion which
safely use a thin tube to remove a tissue from the woman womb. However, standards are strongly
emphasized through strong policies that allow conduction of abortion practices by licensed
medical practitioners. The team is meant to include various health specialties such as physicians,
approved nurses and other experienced health practitioners.
Conversely, a woman having abortion is a right in most of the state’s legal systems. In the
Texas Statutory definition of legal laws, it is the right of the mother to acquire safe abortion
when the women state of health is compromised by the embryo that raise complication which
may lead to death (Powe, 175). However, it should be conducted in the early first trimester to
avoid consequent cases of complications with a direction from a practitioner. In the counter-
argument, minors are denied the freedom even to make their health decisions. Their action of
abortion should be supported by the notification and the consent of the parent but not the will of
the minor. Rebutting this, countries adopt international policies to guide on the issues pertaining
to abortion. NAF came with clinical policy directives to maintain quality, safety and abortion
care through standards, recommended practices and alternatives.
In conclusion, abortion brings forth the relationship between laws and the contemporary
issues affecting people within a society. The potential solution to avoid abortion is the use of
contraceptives, sex protection such as condoms and complete abstinence from sexual activities.
We can increase the safety of abortion by getting consultations from an experienced medical
practitioner (Sixta & Woliver, 27). However, people should completely abstain from sexual
intercourse because contraception is sometimes unreliable due to unpredictable body changes
(Babones, 99). The pro-choice claim that, abortion is a woman’s right and her freedom shouldn’t
be intruded. As a result, the Illinois law forbids abortion when a fetus is confirmed viable
between 23-24 weeks but allow if complications erupt.
