Report Script Gasden Accident

At least 25 people were injured this evening when a truck loaded with chickens made an
illegal left turn along McFarland Rd downtown Gasden. The police report indicates that 12
vehicles were involved in the accident. The cause of the accident appears to have been as a result
of a truck loaded with chicken which wrecked other vehicles causing a pileup of vehicles along
the road.
One of the police at the scene; Sergeant John Jones told WNCP TV that the accident was
caused by a semi-truck loaded with chickens which made an illegal left turn. Jeff Jonson; the
driver of the truck carrying the chickens broke his ankle and also sustained other minor injuries
and was rushed to Gadsden General Hospital. The driver is said to be from Alberta City where he
lives with his wife and three children. Police reports at the scene also show that another victim
Sarah Bernell aged 63 was also among the injured after her car which was driven by her nephew;
Mike Kenyon was involved in the same accident. Sergeant Jones confirmed that Bernell was a
retired kindergarten teacher and was immediately rushed to the hospital where she is currently
receiving treatment. Clarence DiMotta who is the hospital spokesman told WNCP TV that both
the driver and the Bernell were in good condition and that they were receiving the best medical
attention.
According to Sergeant Jones, about 300 chickens were hurt during the accident. An
estimated 30 died instantly at the scene while an unknown number was said to be still trapped in
the wreckage. Reports also showed an estimated 40 chicken escaped the scene. Jones stressed
