words and even a line of words. Bird domesticators prefer the African grey parrot to the rest.
According to some, the African grey parrot can memorize some events, actions and words.
They relate it to a three year old toddler who knows how to mimic, learn and at the same time
have emotions, just as a human being.
Apart from just mimicking and aping human behaviour, the African grey parrots show some
funny and boring behaviours which at some point can make their caretaker stay worried. The
behavioural issues usually leave the ones taking care of them so frustrated. There are some
habits concerning the birds that one has to be familiar with to avoid frustration. As noted
above, the parrots are emotional as the human beings and hence can be stressed. For instance,
some of them might look bored, and not active. They need someone to socialize with and
make them active(Pepperberg, Irene M, 23). The person who has one and looks bored, it will
in return make him bored too and as a result, get frustrated. To handle issues like these, take
it to a more ‘romantic’ places to entice it to feel refreshed. Also, some annoying
environments like a noisy environment might leave them over stressed. To relieve them from
the stress, the keeper should transfer them to a quieter place. The behaviour is almost similar
to that of a human being.
In conclusion, the grey African parrots are the most intelligent group of parrots due to their
abilities to copy and mimic different sounds and behaviors from the surrounding environment
(Mazengenyaet al, 34). That is the main reason most people like domesticating them. They
are as fragile as the others from the other parts of the world. They are sensitive to almost
everything and need intensive care to make them reward you with their funny behaviors.
Since their behaviors are largely dependent on the environment, it is important to make sure
that the environment is more conducive for them, otherwise they will only leave you
frustrated.
