Americans with Disabilities Act
Introduction
Americans with Disability Act is a civil right law prohibiting discriminations against
people with disabilities in all public institutions regarding employment, schools, transportation,
and all institutions either public or private opened for the general public use (Davis, 2016). The
primary purpose of the regulations is to have surety that people with disability enjoy same rights
as the other people. The law gave protection of civil rights to those disabled on based on race,
color, gender, origin, age, and religion. It assures equal chances for disabled people in
accommodation in public, employment, transportation, services at state and local government.
Nursing being sector that offers services to the public and people with disability, therefore, calls
for a full application of the law.
Impact of Americans with Disability Act
According to the Society of Nurses with Disability (2013), healthcare segment is the
leading industry in the economy of America mostly associated with work-related injury and
ailments. As an advanced practice nurse, one will receive patients from all corners some being
normal and others having disabilities. Full enforcement of the law and applying the nursing
ethical standards, therefore, is a must. The law cuts across all sectors and its proper
understanding; it will be beneficial in guiding on the manner of performing duties and how to
perform them. For instance, the law requires individuals with disability to be offered job
opportunities upon being considered qualified and qualified. As an advanced nurse, it is will be
