Idealizing the desirable kind of capitalist economy that should have been developed from
the very beginning should have begun by acknowledging that the current forms of capitalist
economies have inequities and are unable to deliver the primary goals of an ideal capitalist
economy. Therefore, in other words, acknowledging the primary goals and principles of an ideal
capitalist economy is particularly imperative in idealizing the desirable kind of capitalist
economy that should have. Besides, understanding the primary goals and principles does not
only create the framework to point out the weaknesses in the current forms capitalist economies
the that need to be reconciled, but also forms a criteria for idealizing how an ideal capitalist
economy should have been in other broad respects (Moore 00:53:29 – 1:00:05). In this regard,
the capitalist system is unjust. Moore suggests that an ideal capitalist economy works on the
principle of self-regulation through the market commanding or setting prices in a manner that
assures profitability and eliminating inefficiencies itself without government interventions
(Moore 00:53:29 – 1:00:05). The reaction of the Catholic Bishop is in line with these views. The
Bishop asserts that even Jesus would not have preferred a capitalist system.
Why is the United States capitalist system failing to deliver satisfactory outcomes with
regard to its unstable economy?
In the documentary, the Moore highlights various problems with Western capitalism,
attributing the failures to lack of an elaborate government conducive for ideal capitalism. The
United States also seem to have failed concerning embracing democracy and globalization,
which would have also served as a platform for the growth of capitalism. Contrary to the claims
that the global population is drawing closer to each other, the world is still apart because
interactions and business activities are still localized. The undesirable outcomes are mainly
attributed to different barriers, especially those arising from state regulations.
