Over the years, different cities across the world have been subjected to high rates of greenhouse
gas emissions combined with over-exploitation of natural resources and environmental
degradation and that cause climate change. Climate change has a virtual impact on every aspect
of our lives today. Therefore, as individuals, we are aware of the minor actions that we can take
in order to minimize the emissions that bring about climate change. It is due to these impacts that
city management around the world come up with approaches well known as “green “strategies in
order to curb these effects. These policies play an essential role in restoring back climate bonds.
To start with, protecting and restoring key ecosystems is one of the most essential strategies
devised in cities such as New York, Toronto, and Auckland in order to curb climate change
impacts. It is fundamental to have a respect for nature. For my city, Osaka has to put in place and
implement this strategy in order to become greener. Ecosystem such as wetlands, oceans, rivers,
mangroves, and forest absorb carbon in large quantities, slowing the warming rate. Mangroves
also act as an obstacle against tropical storms whereas wetlands absorb surplus water from
floods. Therefore, the city manager of Osaka should implement these policies for its greener
enhancement, putting into consideration that the city is built along the coast.

The second core strategy devised by different cities across the world is, promoting green energy.
Globally, more than forty percent of all emissions originate from energy production. Am aware
that my city, Osaka, is much dependent on hydroelectric and thermal electric energies which
result in climate change. Therefore, I would wish to make an appeal to the leadership of the city
to opt for efficient energies got from oceanic, solar, geothermal and wind sources. Moreover,
adopt other projects that acclimate to a habitation`s distinctive characteristics. It is through this
our city and the country of Japan as a whole would experience an enhanced greener climate.
Another strategy adopted by cities managements all over the world is through combating short-
lived climate pollutants. One of the most infamous greenhouse gas is Carbon (IV) Oxide. In
addition, it rests in the atmosphere for a couple of years. Short-lived pollutants such as ozone,
methane, black carbon and the hydrofluorocarbons from refrigerants, are responsible for more
than 30 percent of the emissions that result in global warming. These pollutants are common in
some areas across my city. Moreover, the Osaka city management will have to put in action
policies that will enable them to control these effects and speed up the combat against climate
change within the short term.
Many cities across the world have also come up with another green strategy of supporting small
agricultural producers. The meat industry results to more than 15 percent of greenhouse gas
emissions, surpassing the ones in the transportation sector. Moreover, it is a major source of
water use and pollution all over the world. Most of the agricultural production is for animal
feeding. The rate of deforestation in some areas across our city has been accelerated over the past
years, due to land expansion for livestock and the produce to feed them. Therefore, the
government should support local producers who unlike the large producers, put in place viable
practices, benefit nearby communities, care about the restoration of land, and make the crops and

animals more resistant to climate change. It is more on supporting individuals producing our
food with esteem for nature, and less about everyone becoming a vegetarian.
Finally, the last “green” strategy devised by different cities across the world to combat climate
change effect, is through betting on adaption rather than just mitigation. When fighting against
climate change, the work intended to diminish emissions, ending their efforts and reducing
imminent consequences is termed as mitigation. However, projects with an aim to mitigate
emissions are more financially attractive than the ones designed for adaptation, which has more
focus on the most helpless communities. Therefore, it is of great importance that our city
leadership should play this role in order to give a significance adaptation it deserves, due to the
fact that the effects of climate change are already a critical actuality for many.
In conclusion, it is essential that most of the cities around the world have come to the realization
of the benefits of making the town greener, by coming up with approaches that help in
combating the effects of climate change. However, other cities globally should learn and practice
the public policies and regulations set by these leading cities with a greener climate.
