Section 1
Digital literacy enhances one's ability to take part in activities affecting the society
through online platforms which have the desired effect of promoting inclusion
1
. According to
Munck
2
, whenever citizens engage in online communications, new communities are created in
addition to amplifying the already existing ones. With such communities’ citizens will forge one
unified voice and demand for more significant action from their leaders in regards to policy
formulation, directing political processes, and improvement of public services. Digital literacy
directly correlates to possessing more excellent knowledge on current issues of public interest
3
.
This offers support for the notion that people who have access to the internet are well informed
about issues affecting society.
Global citizenship is a way of perceiving and engaging with multiple communities
beyond nations, states, and regions
4
. For many people, global citizenship engagement is mainly
exercised through participation in global discourse transcending state and national barriers
through online platforms
5
. Digital literacy enhances political participation which can unite the
global community behind a noble cause such as climate change
6
Section 2
In the current society, political participation has moved beyond traditional mediums such
as audience participation forums to occupy the digital space
7
. Digital literacy transcends beyond

the mere ability to obtain information to evaluating and even composing and spreading
information
8
. As such digital literacy encourages direct citizen participation in the political
activities of a country. Digital platforms are increasingly being applied by in grass root political
movements that advocate for political causes across the globe. In 2011, the long-serving regime
in Egypt was toppled by protesters who chiefly used the social media to mobilize and stage
antigovernment demonstrations

Section 3
The first challenge arose when trying to locate suitable articles that are relevant to the
research topic. This challenge was overcome by detailed and concerted efforts of conducting
online research using the keywords “digital literacy and democratic participation” and “global
citizenship and digital literacy." The second challenge was a challenge that was relating the
information to the topic which can be overcome by a detailed reading of the articles and the
research guidelines.
The most relevant database aggregator is EBSCO that has several databases with the
most detailed being the Academic Search Complete. Using academic search complete is simple
and yielded several articles that I sifted through to locate relevant which had relevant information
to the research topic. The one still lingering issue with academic research is identifying the
related articles and picking out useful information without spending much time on them.
Learning to acquire new and use the information is a never-ending process. This involves
evaluating its authenticity and engaging others on a discourse over the issues of significance
