Letter To The Reader
The paper is based on the research of various literary genres to meet the requirements of the
semester. Before reading this assignment, you should know that it is based on the work of
Geoffrey Chaucer, the Canterbury Tales, which covers 20 tales advanced during medieval
England. The work that contributed significantly towards the growth of literature using the
original middle English language. The genres of literature help to capture, and communicate
different types of information about a society, its culture, lifestyle, and the way they behave in
their daily endeavors of the travelers and the people of England. The main literature genres
selected for this assignment include musical, fantasy, westerns, romance, mystery, thriller among
others. In the modern world, these genres have gained access into the theatre and are richly
filmed as a way to store, and communicate vital advancement in literature.
I selected my genres to examine in this paper based on the influence they have on the modern
generation and the inspiration drawn from Canterbury Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer. The most
informative and relevant to the society and culture of the modern age genres are among the ones
I elected to include, and they will intrigue you probably. Since the genres included in the paper
are major genres, they are self-contained and makes a vital contribution to the literature of the
modern era and expand the understanding of different cultures in society.
The explanation for each piece and resource, both cited and stated, digs deeper into the
understanding of literature classification and the illumination of the society in the modern age. I
tremendously enjoyed putting this project together, and I hope you will find enjoyment and
knowledge upon further examination of my work.

Science Fiction and Canterbury Tales
The first genre is science fiction which is defined as imaginative content of literature that is
based on science. The Canterbury Tales stories are based on imaginative content literature, some
that can be scientifically proven, the means to travell efficiently for instance.
Facts: The science fiction heavily relies on scientific facts, theories, principles, assumptions, and
ideas to support its setting, themes, characters, plot lines, a style which makes its unique and
distinct from other genres. Most Science fiction works take the series format of Canterbury Tales
as illustrated in the Hyperion. The storyline and elements of science fiction stories are imaginary
and are believed to be proved scientifically. When exploring science fiction, there are aspects
that you perceive impossible; however, according to this genre, the facts and elements of their
stories are usually possible according to science. Science fiction has been around for as long as
the 18th century. However, the actualization of the content of science fiction literature was
enhanced with the advancement in technology and science where aspects of space exploration,
electricity, medical advances increased across the world (Luckhurst, 80). As science and
technology grows and expands; science fiction also gains roots to advance to new levels. Further,
there are two types of science fiction: hard science fiction which strictly follows scientific
principles and facts; and soft science fiction focused on social science such as anthropology
among others. Example of science fiction literature novel is the work of H. G. Wells (1898) The
Wars of the World.

Facts: The genre was derived from the term memory. The memoir is a factual narration or story
that is based on the relationship between the writer and a place, person, object or thing that may

development of their memories dating back to their childhood experiences and encounters. The
memoirs are majorly written by famous and celebrity members of the society such as famous
actors, musicians, artists, world leaders, pro athletes, pro footballers among others. The memoirs
can be authored by any other person though and could be a rich source of cultural literature of a
group of people. The memoir genre literature revolves around the span of activities and events
that happens in the writer's life. However, some times the memoirs can be based on the writer's
important aspects and events in their lives in their content coverage. Further, memoirs tend to

serve critical functions in a society like telling a good story. The memoir-like a good life could
be inspiring, fun, deeply relatable, sad, absurd with the purpose of telling and rendering the
understanding of how one made vital stretches in their life (Karr, & Karr, 349). Secondly,
memoirs serve to support a particular view in the society such as political, social, economic,
cultural, and psychological views and may serve to inspire the society to change the view and
perspective of the life. The other importance is for the authors to stay in the eyes of the public
and to correct the negative public view of the individual as the writing the memoir enables one to
defend themselves. An example of a memoir in literature is the Commentaries on the Gallic
Wars, by Julius Caesar.

The western genre of literature of various arts developed primarily during the latter half of the
19th century in American old West revolving around the life of nomadic gunfighter or a cowboy
riding on a horse. The genre can come in the form of novels, short stories, motion pictures, static

The genre that combines songs, musical beats, spoken dialogue, acting, the dancing format of
literature. It is the most common form of cultural literature communication and preservation in
any society across the globe. The emotional and story content of music such as pathos, humor,

been around for a long time intertwingled in other literary forms such as drama, poetry among
others. The musical genre serves the function of providing entertainment, communicating an
important message in the society, cultural presentation and preservation among others. The
musical genre is a critical element of culture that the society enjoys, and music can be presented

of the quest where each challenge represents an independent story that could be taken out of the

Self-Assessment
What surprised you during this project?
The things that surprised me during this project was the depth of the project. The instruction
appears to simplify the project to sound simple, however, along the way I realized how multi-
genre research is too detailed and intertwined that one has to go through different layers to
uncover the desired content. The uniqueness of the project rests in resource and information
collection to build the multi-genre project as evidenced in the resources I incorporated into this
project above. The 20 stories in Canterbury Tales on travelers and medieval England forms the
multiple genre literature covers various literature, art, music, narratives, drama, cultures from
around the globe. Secondly, I enjoyed working on this assignment project. The start with
instruction was not that enjoyable until I started reading the multi-genre resources in light of
contribution to society and culture and developing the factual materials around the different
genres.
What did you learn about writing in different genres as a way of inquiring into this topic
and communicating what you know?
I learned that the thorough research around diverse literature the reader gains more
understanding of various literal facts in the society. the nature of this project is multi-
dimensional and in-depth providing knowledgeable insights and informative information about
literature
Student’s Surname 11
What is the strongest and weakest parts of your project; explaining why/what (etc.) for
each
I think the weakest part of this project is the thriller source because the materials are limited. It is
intertwined in science fiction, and fantasy diluting its weight. I also have limited access to top
thriller materials and including was challenging for me, but I decided to include it anyway. The
primal reason is the value of having a challenge and challenging oneself while working on
literature materials.
The strongest sections are memoir and science fiction genres of literature. The memoir is critical
because3 they are based on the perception of oneself and the way one depicts oneself is more
relevant and truer than what others say about you. Science fiction incorporates the modern aspect
technology, and scientific facts make it very valid and relevant in this digital era where there is a
lot of science fiction literature in the form of movies such as Avengers among other.
What grade do you feel you deserve on this project and why?
Based on the intensity of work I have done in this project; I believe I deserve an ‘A.' a significant
amount of time reaching the assignment since it was posted in the Canvas which enabled me to
have sufficient time to draft and prepare the assignment. I have read around each genre included
in this project to gain sufficient personal understanding and knowledge of the resources and
material that I have conveyed to my readers. I am confident of my project because I have spent
many hours, drafting and revising this assignment so that it would be acceptable and ready to
submit by its due date.
