Artwork between (1960-1980)
For over the century (20
th
century and 21
st
century) artwork have been influenced
contemporarily by the global changes and the emergence of different cultural diversities and also
the increase of the level of technology in the world today. The art system is very dynamic that it
keeps on changing in terms of dynamics, concepts, subjects, and methods that challenge the
traditional boundaries.
The art history from 1960-1980 contained the life history of many things that happened in
the world either socially, or politically and has a very great in the world art, for instance, the
hippie movement between the 1960 and the 1970s that involve the countercultural that
disallowed the mores and the mainstream of the life of Americans. The movement started from
the colleges and compasses in the United States and again spread to countries such as Britain and
Canada. The movement was based on national peace with nature and experimentation of artists.
The countercultural revolution really had a very great impact in the world that it can still be felt
today. The history has been kept in the numerous museum in drawings the other forms of
artwork that keep the situation alive to date.
There are some of the difficulties many people have been facing in the contemporary
artwork which includes its diversity diversity of materials, forms subject and the period of an
event occurring. It really lacks the uniform meaning and the principle of the organization or even
the ideology that we normally see as more familiar with an event or movement that is worth
remembering. Most of the contemporary art focus their message on the modern principles of
modernism. The focus is for self-referential and investigating its own material in terms of color,
form shape and line. Contemporary art of today lacks most of the objective points of view where
it does not reflects the diversity of the present world today, it normally reflect what we can see

touch or feel but does not keep any information that some people can forget or some people
don’t want to forget. It is therefore regarded to be an open-ended kind of work that is
contradicting or confusing.
The artistic work of drawing brought a lot of information in the ancient world as compared to the
contemporary artwork art this is in accordance with Now Dig This! Art and Black Los Angeles,
(1960-1980) demonstration that has a great legacy of the chronological African American artist.
The work of this artist has animated the civil rights power of the black movements, animating the
sense of what really resulted in African American identity and the culture of America. Since the
lessening of the racial discrimination of the black, the power of the black community became so
strong and resulted in new legislation systems and change in the social norms.
In Los Angeles, there were many Africans that were living in that state and the
population was thriving well in terms of economy, social and political changes. This was made
possible by the black artist that worked to form a cultural community that became part and parcel
of the city thriving in the arts scene. Most of the Africans in Los Angeles originated from
different ethnic groups and background who were very talented in the artistic work making Los
Angeles succeed in the artistic practices during the historic periods. Their work was influenced
positively by the people who supported them in terms of contributions.
The exhibition was made possible through the collaboration of more than sixty cultural
parties across Southern California, coming to Narrate the story of how the Los Angeles was born
and the birth scene, there are one of the portraits produced in that error of art. In it there is a lot
of information that one can gather in the portrait, there is a plant growing in the portrait, a bird, a
lady and a face of a human being within the lady. The portrait was produced by; Suzanne
Jackson, in 1973. Whose focus was to illustrate the survival of human beings, plant, birds and

other people who depend on one another, this was in relation to the dependence of the other
(each organism needs the other to survive) and they have a right to be protected for them to live.
The transmission of the artwork in Europe and the Latin America between 1960 and 1980
aim at the parallel and the ties within the artist of the Latin America and Eastern Europe in those
decades. This was due to to the widespread of the protests of students in 1968 who were working
in the in various political and economic backgrounds. Their idea was to circulate their network of
art and to develop the cross-cultural links and networks. The culture was to focus on the various
tradition institutions and the local forms of the state repression independently.
Museums have become the main source of the artistic work in the world of today, this is
where the ancient drawing and other forms of art have been kept for the future references. The
drawing mainly contained a lot of information in them, including the time of occurrence, subject,
color and the stylistic designs. The art is designed in a manner that everyone can read and
understand what was happening and the history of the art. Or this can be made possible by the
museum attendants who will be able to help you interpret the information in the art.
The conceptual art
ARTWORK BETWEEN 1960-1980 5
The conceptual word art was a modernist form of painting which uses sculpture based on
the images which can be seen and interpreted by the necked eye. It was done many artists such as
Kawara (1932-2014). The conceptual art movement focused on the principle that art does not
depend on the object but it depends on the concept. This is to say, the idea is to represent the
main components and the final products. The final products were produced in the documentation,
not on the artifacts like other arts are being done. The conceptual art has made the ideas more
powerfully to different ethnic communities and acts as a stare wheel for social and cultural
behaviors. Conceptualism stands to challenge most of the artwork more so the postmodern
artwork which requires the passive experience of observation while conceptualism provides a
more interactive know how. It was more entertaining and the idea can be gotten easily and it
qualifies as an artwork, nobody could doubt it.
For instance, the collection of many shoes in the Holocaust Museum (Washington, DC)
which belong to the population of Nazi victims, simply suggested the conceptual artwork this is
because by walking past many piled sets of shoes help us to understand the bad occurrence and
terrifying truth of the cylinders of gas
Performance art in 1960 going onwards is an investigational form of art that is promoted
by the conceptual art by Dada, Futurism and finally Bauhaus. The performance of the art was
generally involving a live performance where the artists communicate directly with the audience
during the act. Its impacts can be felt weather shocking or funny, this makes it become
memorable. Moreover, the performance lies on what is in the society and the community at large,
this involves the tradition and the ethical issues in the society.
The performance included the daily happenings events by the poets, filmmakers, visual
artists, musicians and many others in the year 1960s and 1970s where the artists could convert

the appearance of the body as a form or a type of performance. Subsequently, they perform in a
shocking manner or a scary way that will attract the audience attention and some will
automatically shy off. By the year 1980, the performance of the artistical work increasing relied
on the immerging forms of technology like the computers which made the work of performance
very easy but the meaning and the message was lacking. Information of the society, social norms
were reduced.
Minimalism is also another form of art in the year 1960s that emerged, it is a refined form
of the art that pointed out abstraction of any type of art and it became so influential in the world
as a style. It produced its materials in form of sculptures, painting, and architectural work.
Minimalism was a very fine kind of art since it is very simple and lacks impressive contexts. The
elements were represented the way they are and no emotion was involved. Painting in
minimalism was made in a uniform manner within the elements making some simple patterns.
Minimalism was the last stage of the abstract logical development where the style goes from
action painting (color field painting)
There are some of the influences that were observed from the artistic movement, just
looking back in the western history, it is very critical to see the impacts of the artistical work and
the influence to the society. By drawing back our attention through the timeline of the artistical
movement of different art we are able to see the contemporary art, how it has developed from the
ancient period and the reflection of its time. For instance, impressionism was considered as a
controversial movement that was acting as a watchdog to the shift of art world from Paris to New
York. The kind of art that was now being produced did not meet the standards expected in the
world, the new forms were now taking over the art system. This was a very big shift in craft
work.
ARTWORK BETWEEN 1960-1980 7
Technology has had a great impact on the artwork, it has changed the way people live,
how they think, live and even talk. This is due to the introduction of more advanced computers
and mobile phones. Throughout the history, technology has had a great impact on both the artists
and the art itself. Since a human being has had the interest of exploring and getting to know more
about the world and nature they were in a position of embracing the technology. The main
purpose of technology is to make life easier and to help solve the problem. This was right
according to a personal perspective since life was to be made more efficient for people, but in
other words, the introduction of computers and mobile phones, the artist’s work have changed
drastically. All the multimedia software allowed the artists to display their artwork, animation,
and audio on the same screen at once. This was an easy task, but the truth should be told, much
of the theme was lost since technology focused its interest mainly to the modern world. People
really abandoned their culture and other important ethical values just to embrace the new system
of technology in the world today. So many arts that were produced does not meet the required
standards of the society and the community at large, hence contemporary artwork.
Neo-Expressionism is also another form of conceptualism in the postmodernism which is
a broad painting method that appears in around 1980, many artists adopted again this style of
painting since it has a self-purity, here there was fine art painting which championed the
extremely fashion practices which the modernist have challenged to be looking very bad in terms
of the symbols, figuration, narration and finally emotion. They tend to use very sensitive colors
alongside with themes allied with historical styles and the movement such as the pop art cubism
Fauvism, Surrealism, Mannerism and many others. The movement encompassed the new
painting method in Germany by the artists like Georg Baselitz (b.1938). The rise of the
ARTWORK BETWEEN 1960-1980 8
movement rehabilitated the several artists working in the same system of producing the more
advanced arts in a simple way.
The operating system of the art world sometimes lies in the some of the institutions
varying from major museums to some other self owned, non profiting areas, school of art and
finally scholars. The main division in the art world lies between the profit and the non-profit
making sectors. Even though in the recent year the space between the profit and the nonprofit
owned institutions have just become increasingly unclear. The highly ranked professionals who
produce contemporary art sometimes got helped by some of the institutions that funded their
work. They were supported by grants, awards and the direct sales of the work of their hand.
Some of the institutions have been criticized for controlling the contemporary artwork which was
making some of the artists to work behind the historical context. This was not preserving the
history of an area or an event that took place and reference will be needed in the time to come.
Most of the artists were taught on their artwork by their professionals not go out the
historical context since they needed to conserve and protect the history of the place and the event
that was being exhibited in the drawing art. Cultural norms and the human behaviors were to be
kept intact for future references, these included the use of the environment and its conservation
measures and the distribution of the natural resources. These were to be exhibited most of the
time during painting as an art.
