Assisted Suicide
Harned, Mary E. "The Dangers of Assisted Suicide No Longer Theoretical". Americans
United for Life. N.p., 2014. Web. 8 Feb. 2017.
Ethanasia or assisted suicide is a deliberate, speedy, voluntary and painless death, caused
and driven by a hygienic medical procedure that leaves no mess. It is legal in some countries and
legal in others (Harned 513). It is a controversial and emotive issue from a religious, social,
medical, legal, ethical and even political perspective.
Facts and evidenced arguments point to assisted suicide being highly unethical and
immoral. There is nothing distinguished about causing one’s death. It is in fact irrational for one
to voluntarily allow a physician to inject them with the fatal poison which is often the conveyor
of death in assisted suicide. Legalization of assisted suicide poses several risks to the society. It
provides an untimely death to the disabled, elderly, marginalized and the poor; those who see no
allure in life, but who, with some struggle and determination, can still enjoy long lives (Harned
514). The concept of assisted suicide promotes despondency and hopelessness among the most
vulnerable in the society. The concept should be rejected and banished from the society, on
grounds of public and personal morality as well as the safety of people.
Odone. C’s book “Assisted Suicide” provides clear arguments on the issue of assisted
suicide. It documents arguments from other authors, speeches and other materials. The book
provides fantastic literature for this essay, giving fabric to the assertions I make.
