Ethanasia or assisted suicide is a deliberate, speedy, voluntary and painless death, caused
and driven by a hygienic medical procedure that leaves no mess. It is legal in some countries and
legal in others (Harned 513). It is a controversial and emotive issue from a religious, social,
medical, legal, ethical and even political perspective.
Facts and evidenced arguments point to assisted suicide being highly unethical and
immoral. There is nothing distinguished about causing one’s death. It is in fact irrational for one
to voluntarily allow a physician to inject them with the fatal poison which is often the conveyor
of death in assisted suicide. Legalization of assisted suicide poses several risks to the society. It
provides an untimely death to the disabled, elderly, marginalized and the poor; those who see no
allure in life, but who, with some struggle and determination, can still enjoy long lives (Harned
514). The concept of assisted suicide promotes despondency and hopelessness among the most
vulnerable in the society. The concept should be rejected and banished from the society, on
grounds of public and personal morality as well as the safety of people.
Odone. C’s book “Assisted Suicide” provides clear arguments on the issue of assisted
suicide. It documents arguments from other authors, speeches and other materials. The book
provides fantastic literature for this essay, giving fabric to the assertions I make.
This source has enlightened me to the fact that there are several dimensions and
perspectives to the issue of euthanasia; most of which are against it. The book has made me
realize that there are several lobby groups advocating for the legalization of assisted suicide and
its acceptance in communities and societies. There are several supporters of euthanasia around
the globe, just as there are several activists, groups and associations that have risen up to combat
what they deem as evil, immoral and unethical.

Wrong". Center for Policy Studies. N.p., 2012. Web. 8 Feb. 2017.
Plainly, assisted suicide is the act of suicide with the help of another party. Assisted
suicide, commonly termed ‘Euthanasia’ has attracted several misconceptions and misleading
assumptions. The most common misconception is that it is a desirable thing and required in
several medical situations. Proponents argue that assisted suicide ameliorates the suffering of
thousands of terminally ill patients and accident victims, whose chances of survival or recovery
are slim to the point of null (Odone, 6). There is something distinctly misleading about the above
sentiments. Assisted suicide is the apex of despondency. Promotion and advocacy of the concept
and practice of euthanasia is tantamount to promoting hopelessness. Advocates are evidently
attempting to push for a distorted view of the end of life in the minds of people. The availability
or offer of assisted suicide to patients or any other person is tantamount to pressuring them to
end their lives. There is nothing noble about that. Assisted suicide is a very ignoble thing
(Odone, 2).
This source acts as a secondary source, providing further validation to the content
provided by the first source. This article has also delineated those arguments for and those
arguments against assisted suicide. More importantly, this source has distinctly listed the dangers
of assisted suicide as depression, pain and coercion among others. This will help me organize my
work.
This source has documented psychological insights that have opened my mind to the true
extent of the immorality and inappropriateness of assisted suicide. The author documents that
psychosocial studies have revealed that most patients adapt and continue life in ways they might
not have anticipated, when they are offered support and palliative care. I have also learned that
refusal or withdrawal of life-sustaining treatment does not amount to assisted suicide.
