Battery White Confederate Monument
There have been debates on whether the Battery White should be left or should be
abandoned. Some have calmed that the monument should be preserved because it reminds us of
our black history and also act as a tourist attraction. However, another school of thought is of the
opinion that this monument should be demolished because it is rejuvenating the racial
discrimination within the society and it is creating social tension. It is indeed reasonable to remove
this confederate monument for several reasons such as the suppressing the white man’s supremacy
and saving the cost of maintaining them.
Battery White is found in Georgetown County, South California The monument was built
in 1862 and was being manned by Confederate troops during the Civil war. The civil war was
prevalently involving the people of color who were slaves by then and their white masters. At the
time the monument was built, several wars affected the African Americans due to the racial and
slavery activism. Most African American were killed, and many were injured due to their protest
of equal rights and civility.
One of e reason why battery white needs to be removed is that it still promotes the racial
conflicts by uplifting the status of the white men while degrading the people of color. The
monument has been a catalyst of racism conflict hence its removal might create peace and also a
