BECOMING FAMILIAR WITH DNP PROJECT 2
Purpose of a DNP project
A DNP premise is a synopsis of the DNP project that nursing students propose to be
scrutinized to ascertain whether it meets the threshold for NURS 8410. The preparation of a DNP
project offers the opportunity for a student to make a significant contribution to the nursing
practice and patient outcomes. It reflects the student’s area of interest enabling him or her to
delve deep and demonstrate their mastery of nursing practice.
Steps in formulating a DNP project
Projects should be designed such that their outcomes can potentially guide policy and
practice in the nursing specialty. The project should focus on issues that impact healthcare
outcomes, have micro and macro-level aggregate focus, have a financial sustainability plan and
finally have an evaluation of results. Students should formulate a well-developed question,
review the literature resources, access the validity of resources using evidence, use the evidence
and analyze the issues (Dahnke, & Dreher, 2012, p. 37).
Timeline of a DNP project
One considers a DNP project when they enroll a doctoral program and work towards its
accomplishment through their school time. Develop a DNP premise, complete the proposal, seek
committee approval, complete and defend the final project paper, this should be the conventional
procedure. The intent of this project is to strategise a program on primary care education to
ensure clinical practice guideline implementation as a way of improving chronic disease
management (Funk & Tornquist, 2015, p. 63). An active improvement project will be initiated to
ensure adherence to chronic disease management. Factors that hinder adherence will be
identified, interventions implemented and the resulting outcomes assessed.

The impact of DNP to rural health improvement
The population in rural areas has continued to experience an increased need for primary
caregivers, higher percentage of elderly, and an increased prevalence of chronic diseases. DNP
take part in helping students in comprehending the implications of rurality in population and
individual health and health care. The impact of DNP is that specialized training and emphasis
has been developed to improve rural health. Understanding the requirements of the rural
population can be enhanced with an amalgamation scholarly project implementation and
development, clinical experience, and didactic coursework (Dahnke, & Dreher, 2012, p. 117).
