Example 1
The movie I am going to discuss in this case is the Karate Kid which was produced in 1984.
This is a successful classic that is followed with a remake and sequels. This is a film where the
character who is victimized fights back and is able to defeat his bully. In the context of this movie,
violence is defeated by another violence that opposes it. However, this does not happen in a brutal
form that is inhuman, it happens in a gracious karate fight that is respected. In addition, what
enables the victimized character to defeat his bully is not the physical strength that the victimized
possesses but the stability of the victim’s mind and intellect. This, Daniel LaRusso learns from a
master of martial arts so that he can stop the oppression he has been getting from Johny, a karate-
trained bully. This film is very intelligent and heart-warming. It not only entertains but also
inspires.
The Karate Kid film was produced by Jerry Weintraub and directed by John G. Avildsen.
The script of the film was written by Elizabeth Shue, Robert Kamen, Ralph Macchio and Pat
Morita.
Surname 2
Bullying is portrayed in the context where Johny bullies Daniel. However, the film teaches
the oppressed a lesson that they can use their intellect to win over those who oppress them. This is
because later, Daniel uses his wits to outperform Johny in a karate fight that is quite respected. As
such, the bully in this film is challenged by the person he used to bully. This movie has an effect
on the way people perceive bullies in the society. People tend to think bullies are invincible people.
However, this film shows that this is not true because Johny is later defeated by his victim.
Example 2
The news report I am going to present here is one that was published in newser.com about
a girl who complained about bullying and later committed suicide. The girl is said to have
complained to her mother about bullying and later killed herself through overdose. The
newser.com is an online newspaper platform where people can read different stories about what is
happening in different places in the United States.
Bullying is presented in the form of cyber stalking where two 12-year-olds are said to have
done things that they knew would cause the victim emotional distress. The bullying is describe as
heavy harassment that the victim got from her classmates.
The depiction of the bullying incidence here is neither exaggerated nor downplayed as the
news report gives the facts as to what happened. The bullies are described as knowing that their
actions would cause emotional distress to the victim. The victim on the other hand is portrayed as
having complained about heavy harassment from her classmates. The coverage of the story is
adequate because whatever happened to the victim and the bullies after the bullying incident is
explained in great detail. There are no other incidences of bullying shown in the news report.
Surname 3
This news story lets the society know that bullying has many negative effects on both the
bully and the victim and therefore should be avoided. The bullying incident described in this news
report causes the victim to commit suicide while the bullies face criminal charges.
