Child abuse refers to the act of neglecting or omitting basic treatment that is supposed to

be provided by the parent or the caregiver of the children (Kleinman, 2015). The determination

of the occurrence of child abuse varies from one society to another depending on the cultural

values that surround the care of the child. In many instances, the child abuse is associated with

maltreatment of the child in a manner that goes against the will of the small creature that is

regarded as harmless before anyone in the society. However, some acts that are considered as

child abuse in one society may fail to be substantial in another community. The proper

understanding of the elements that surround child abuse is essential amongst the counselors of

child abuse and as well as for every individual in the society as it helps in solving the problem

indirectly or directly. Hence, the paper gives a clear elaboration of the importance of

understanding the child abuse issues, how it is manifested and the approaches that are available

for solving the problem.

Child abuse has been an issue of concern to the social counselors. The counselors who

have an interest in curbing the problem of child abuse have prioritized the issue by spelling out

the causes as well as the risk factors so as to formulate the means of stopping the act. For many

years the counselors have handled many cases regarding the abuse of the rights of the children

from the adults who are in their right mind and instead are expected to be protected children. On

my hand, the discussion on child abuse interests me in a manner that I have to understand why

child abuse exists despite the strict policies that have been put in place. Moreover, the topic

interests me in a way that I have to understand why the child abuse has not been able to be

suppressed entirely.

The children face the emotional abuse during their childhood. Many parents apart from

causing physical abuse to the children, they cause the emotional abuse that interferes with the

normal way of the living of the children. Moreover, a child experiences the child abuse through

witnessing the domestic violence that affects the individual child’s feelings towards the normal

life. Most children who are victims of domestic violence later in life develop the post-traumatic

stress disorder which creates illusions of fear in their entire life. In addition, most parents do not

recognize children as the separate people by as their property which is in possession of

dictatorship. However, the same parents never see any problem with exposing the children to

such life as they must have grown in the same situation which eventually ends up expressing in

the next generation by being too arrogant to them.

In addition, they are neglected of parenthood or denied access to the caregiver that is

always an essential provision of normal and healthy growth of the children (Wall et al., 2016).

The scenarios of neglect are characterized by the failure of the parents to provide to the children

with the needs that are essential for their growth. For example, services such as food, clothing

and shelter are not available to such children. Some children may end up growing in the streets

where they will be perceived as the street families. In regard, the street children after growing

under such terrible circumstances they end up getting into relationships in the streets. In the

streets, they are likely to raise their very children under the same conditions that abuse the rights

of the children. Hence, the victims of the child abuse at the early ages are seen to be the main

victims who initiate the subsequent child abuse.

Also, the child can experience sexual abuse that comes as a result of any adult or

adolescent using force to get into intimacy with the child sexually. As a matter of fact, the person

can abuse the child physically or emotionally by using threats that affect the psychological

development of a child. Moreover, any convincing of the child to get into sexual activity by lying

that it is an expression of love is regarded as sexual abuse of the child. Some activities that are

also considered s sexual abuse include masturbation, penetration of the virginal and the genitals

using fingers or penis as well as fondling of the breasts (Mrazek et al., 2014). As such, the

children as sexually abused will grow to understand that sexual abuse has no defined restrictions

and more dangerous are seen to be abusive all through entire their lives. Hence, the victims of

sexual abuse are likely to get back to the young children to sexually abuse them in favor of what

they experienced when young.

However, child abuse can be prevented before it occurs as it sets the best approach to

manage the habit. Fundamentally, initiation of the support programs for the new parents helps to

eliminate the risk factors for the occurrence of the child abuse. The parenting aid of the new

parents that takes place at prenatal and postnatal periods helps to give guidance on how the child

is raised. Some of the information shared includes prevention of substance abuse of the two

parents in cutting to zero the relationship issues that may lead to domestic violence. In addition,

the parenting programs include the provision of the social amenities to the child helps in the

establishment of a cohesive family. As such, issues of emotional abuse do not get a chance to

emerge in the young families.

Educating the parents on the necessity of protecting the rights of the children sets a

standard way of safeguarding the child rights (Geoffroy et al., 2016). The respect to the child

rights has been encouraged amongst all the families instead of targeting the low-income families

that are regarded as the most prone families of child abuse. The education aims at establishing a

homogeneous society that has no violation of the rights of the children. The risk families have

been emphasized to care more for the young ones other than exposing them to the psychological

torture that will later change their personality in future and end up not achieving their dreams

Early and regular family and children screening programs help in the social therapy of the

victims of child abuse (Flaherty et al., 2014). In many cases, the children who are exposed to

child abuse are associated with shying, abnormal behaviors such as being anti-social and low

self-esteem. At the preschools, such characteristics are identified and the children who are

victims undergo intense rehabilitation of the habits during the early stages. Hence, the children

will not have an opportunity to grow with the abusive language which will affect their young

ones later in life when they will resume parenthood.

In conclusion, child abuse involves wide activities and behaviors from the adults that

undermine the life of the children. Neglecting the children at a tender age seeks to make the

children develop unaccepted behavior like being abusive and careless about the importance of

the family. In addition, sexual and emotional abuse violates the rights of the children. As such,

the children raised in such environment acquire the traits that later haunts the subsequent

posterity. However, some measures such educating all families, giving parenting programs to the

new parents and proper screening of victims of child abuse provides the approaches of

preventing child abuse.
