CHINESE HISTORY: I BO’S POEMS
Introduction
For years literature as has been evolving, now new and modern styles are being used to
favor literature and particularly poems as a whole. This makes more and more individuals to
have passion towards reading poetry. In China, several poets have written poems that describe
the history of the country, some of the poets such as Li Bo have played a vital role in ensuring
that the traditional poetic styles are improved to new standards. This piece of work will focus on
Li Bo also known as Li Bai, a Chinese poet who has won several awards for his outstanding
work. The center of interest will be his personality as a human being and his writing styles. The
author has written a thousand poems that have been translated into several languages across the
world; his poems are interesting and full of ideas and lessons to learn from.
Li Bo is an outgoing man who likes staying and hanging around with fellow friends.
From his poem” "Waking from Drunkenness on a Spring Day," the impression that one get is
that of an irresponsible drunkard. He seems to be a man who likes wasting his time by hanging
around and moving aimlessly. He is expected to be a role model, there are certain things he
shouldn’t be doing, and some of these include drinking wine. He seems to be a man with no
goals in life; he lives meeting new friends some of which he don’t know, he appears to force
friendships with individuals not interested in him. Friendship should be a two away traffic; it
shouldn’t be unidirectional, this is not the case with Li Bo, he seems to be concern of friendship
and forget about his family. He doesn’t have regards to his family; he likes pleasures with friends
and other people but not with his family. The poet is immoral; in his entire life, he married four
women. This is abnormal; it cannot be assumed that the wives had issues, he must have been
problematic, this is what make humble abandoned by his wives. Without a wife, he must have
been desperate with no one to share his inner feelings.

After reading and understanding his work, one would realize that he is totally a different
man, a man who likes the environment and its surroundings. He loves traveling and discovering
and appreciating the nature, in short, his is an environmentalist. In his poem “Climbing Mount
Emei,” he describes human understanding using a mountain, the human mind can never be
compared to the mountain, and there is much power that dwells on the mountains. The poet finds
pleasures on just traveling and seeing the beautiful mountains not only in his country but across
the world. He is among a few individuals who appreciate what the nature offer, this is a unique
character.
Li Bo is a peace-loving person, he likes being with friends discussing and sharing ideas.
He doesn’t cause problems whenever he is a drunk with his fellow friends. Unlike some people
when drunk, Li Bo likes maintaining peace with colleagues. One could mistake his pleasures in
drinking wine with an immoral man, but this kind of impression is dismissed when one goes
through his artwork. He enjoys the company of his friends and even those not his friends; he
travels the world making new friends, some of which he couldn’t even recall. Because of his big
heart and his love for peace, the poet had friends across the world. From one of his poem, “A
Poem of Changgan,” the first line of the last stanza, he says “I will meet you-- nowhere is far---
“this shows his that he likes traveling and meeting new people.
The poet is a skilled with full of imaginations (Burt, 2009 p.g 121).This rare ability has
seen him write several captivating poems. Although he is an ancient poet, his writing skills are
used by the modern poets across the world. This is witnessed in one of his poems, “Wandering
about Mount Tai,” he can adapt to the multiplicity of personas and stances to achieve his goal,
and he applied the skill when he considered the existing relationship of a person to the supra-
human in the poem. This ability is rare among many poets. He also has the passion for writing,

something that has enabled him to receive several awards not only in his country but across the
globe. He is also good at describing people, objects, and even places; this is illustrated in his
work, “Five Sacred Peaks,” where he describes his travel on the easternmost part of China. He
wanted to display a mythic fusion of the several traditional paradises. From the piece of work,
the use of emotional fusion is also evident; he can manage emotional fusion of the many
responses of an individual persona to demonstrations of embarrassment and frustration.
Li Bo is a patriot. He has played a role in ensuring that China has a country is known
across the world. Through his art of work, he made China as a country known by many. His
patriotism motivated him as a poet; he wanted to represent his country and win more awards for
the country in the various arts competition. He describes the nature, the plains and the mountains
in China in a way that any reader could like to see. This for sure contributed to increased number
of foreign tourists from all over visit the country. He has used most of the symbols present in the
country’s ancient shamanistic tradition in his work. It is his efforts and other poets that have
made China’s culture strong for many years (Tanner, 2008 p.g 161). Most countries no longer
have their culture in place and practiced by the people because most of the culture was not
documented. I Bo did contribute to the robust culture of the people of China, and till today some
of the cultures are still practiced by the people.
One can easily identify or understand Li Bo as a person. This is because Li Bo does what
an ordinary man could do. The man has a home and a family just like the majority of us. He is a
human, and that is why he likes being with friends and taking meals and drinks such as wine. I
Bo was also known as Li Bai, and Li Po in Wades-Giles is one of the well-known Tang poets.
Southwestern China, Sichuan is where this celebrated poet grew up. His work is charming, and
that is why many readers enjoy it, he also uses unique personas in his poems making it more

enjoyable to many. He was a man who advocates for freedom and a real adventurer traveling
from one place to the other to discover the beauty natures. He was not that educated, and this
somehow led him down when he was in one of the major city of the Tang dynasty.
Conclusion
Li Bo is an industrious Tang poet, he is known for his great artwork. The current
Republic of China still celebrates this great poet although he passed away several years ago. The
impression that one’s has towards Li Bo is entirely different from one could see him after
reading his poems. For instance, a feeling one gets from Li Bo is an immoral man; he goes out
with friends and drinks wines. I Bo in the real sense is a good person who likes being with
friends, he likes traveling to different places to see the different sceneries.
