Comparison between Alice Walker and Thomas Pynchon
Alice Walker and Thomas Pynchon are both writers but were born from different
backgrounds, and they deal with different types of writing. Alice Walker was an African-
American and a child of a sharecropper family which was situated in Georgia rural areas and
studied at Sarah Lawrence College. Pynchon, on the other hand, was born in the New York and
studied at Cornell University.
In their writing journey, they got inspirations from their teachers who had different tastes.
Walker's inspirational teacher was a female poet who had focused on political realm. Therefore,
this made her become a feminist writer who expressed the existence of the blacks from a female
point of view. In contrast, Pynchon got his inspirations from Nabovok who helped him develop
his mastery in writing through innovative fantasies that had a relation with clues, games as well
as codes derived from Nabovok.
While Walker uses poetic realism extensively to center on dreams as well as failures of
accessible people who are credible, Pynchon uses fiction. Walker focuses mostly on the dignity
of human life. Moreover, she has educative skills in her writing style that enlightens the readers.
On the contrary, Pynchon uses fiction which in detail brings about paranoia to the reader as he

invention is similarly structured and therefore no change in style.
However, they both write about life adventures which prove different capabilities
depicted by various individuals. In her write up, Walker describes how two sisters survived a
separation over the years and expressed the strength of a woman to understand a fellow woman
over men. Pynchon also writes about a failure who was wandering on weird enterprises while a
learned fellow is searching for a spy who was mysterious293).
In conclusion, the two writers were born from different backgrounds and had different
inspirations on their writing journey. Besides, Walker extensively uses poetic realism in her
writing while Pynchon uses fiction. However, they both write on life adventures.
