COMPUTER RESOURCES 2
POST 1:
I think the introduction of Green computing is well done as it tells us what green
computing really means. However, I think the point on the origin of green computing should
stand as its own sentence rather than be tied to what it is. It is important that the post
mentions on things that an organization should look into when designing and implementing
information hardware systems. For instance, energy efficient product and which can be
recycled and disposed of easily (Techopedia, 2018). It is important to note that organizations
possess the responsibility of buying energy efficient products and manufacturers of creating
these products. However, I would add that it would be vital for the government to be involved
in these processes as it has the mandate to determine what to be used and not, and also
address issues as energy efficiency and recyclability.
I am also impressed that this discussion covers some of the ways in which people can
contribute to green computing which include putting the computers in sleep mode or
switching them off when not being used. Also, people should purchase energy efficient ones.
Post 2:
Technology is advancing at a very rapid rate, and it is something that we have
embraced comfortably without looking at the impacts these technologies may have on us. The
question remains on whether people really know the detrimental effects these technologies
that they hold in their hands, sit in front of and rest on their laps many hours every day can
have on them.
While the research findings have been ambiguous for the last twenty years although
indicating a potential risk, the telecommunication industry is unlikely to support research as it
will put them at financial risks. WHO in 2011 classified cell phones and other wireless
electronics as a group2b risk meaning they may be possibly carcinogenic (Peper, 2013).
However, there is limited evidence to support the carcinogenicity of these technologies.
