Process Analysis
Consequences of same-sex marriage in the society.
The world has been at a standstill concerning the issues of same-sex marriage, and
different people have different opinions on it. I have done a research whereby getting to identify
the real information from various sources is robust. I have gone through a journal, websites, and
articles just to get a clear understanding and perception of same-sex marriages. Same-sex
marriage has gained population and many teenagers are headed towards that direction. They
follow blindly since they are sensitive and curious to explore their sexuality. Parents should
identify this and understand that the society will not raise their kids but rather themselves.
Institutions of learning should also develop curriculums that teach about sexuality and explain
effects of same-sex marriage to the society.
Marriage is a sacred event that involving a union between a man and woman and the
event is blessed with God. Same-sex marriage spouses should not try to take a stand in getting
joined together in church. “Marriage should be between a spouse and a spouse, not a gender and
a gender.― Hendrik Hertzberg.” The quote explains how marriage has been perceived and
connected to gender hence not being open minded in marriage as a union between spouses. For
people who practice religion, marriage is said to happen when a man comes out of their parents
and same to a woman and they join to bring up a family and thus the above quote would be
Saint-Eloi 2
dismissed. “The best part of being married is that now when we walk down the street, people
won't just see two guys and a kid, they'll have to see a FAMILY. ― Patricia A. Gozemba.” (
Gozemba et al.). The quote from Gozemba’s book, “ Courting equality: a documentary history of
same-sex marriage in America,” Sensitizes the issues of same-sex marriage and the fact that
these unions wouldn’t be able to bring forth generation of children within themselves so that they
create a family.
“Conservatives believe in the ties that bind us. Society is stronger when we make vows to
each other and we support each other. I don’t support gay marriage in spite of being a
conservative. I support gay marriage because I am a conservative. ― David Cameron.” As
humans, we should be able to support other humans and don’t play the role of God since we are
all subjects and on earth for a specific limited time. “It may be that same-sex couples will save
the institution of marriage. ― Elizabeth Gilbert.” Elizabeth brings a broader perspective on
same-sex marriage, but still, we should look at the possible effects of marriage and assess the
possibility of same-sex marriage being the savior of the institution of marriage or if it will make
things worse.
Marriage is a union ordained and blessed by God and this include joining a man and a
woman together since from then they are permitted to become intimate “You cannot sodomize a
Sacrament and expect God to say, 'Well done. ― E.A. Bucchianeri.” . The concern, however, is
if a man becomes intimate with another man, the behavior is degrading, and God cannot bless
that. “Same-sex marriage is not an expression of human right but human wrong. Any nation that
rationalizes same-sex marriage as an expression of human right has lost control of the territorial
integrity of its citizens' rights, and such nation should someday be ready to accept terrorism as an
expression of human right. ― Syllabus Onajobi.” Same-sex marriage is not a human right, and
Saint-Eloi 3
the society should be able to understand the fact that same-sex marriage are an expression of
sexuality and some practice it for the wrong reasons.
The society should understand that homosexuality is an act not accepted by God since it
defies all His laws. When we stop encouraging same-sex and have a law not to practice it then
the society should be straight (Naskar, Bappaditya, et al.) “Homosexuals are not made, they are
born. ― Abhijit Naskar.” When one reads this quote, they get a different understanding and
meaning of the quote. Religion teachers should be able to teach on the issues with same-sex
marriage since religion does not have room to accept same-sex marriage since they believe God
created a man and a woman to join up for marriage.
People have argued this issue at a psychological perception like, “the gay sexual
orientation is not a full life lifestyle, it's just a state of mind. ― abdallah lbakassi.” This means
that homosexuality is just a lifestyle of people who feel like they don’t fit into the society and
hence trying to fix themselves to the opposite gender. “Just talk to a homosexual, and you'll find
out how they all think. too many things in common. ― abdallah lbakassi.” Abdallah continues to
justify that homosexuals don’t meet and join because they are in love but rather those who feel
isolated from the society consoling themselves. “The power of love is that it sees all people. ―
DaShanne Stokes.” Perhaps we should revisit the definition of the word love and try to
understand if what happens in same-sex marriage is due to true love or as a result of the desire to
fit in and be able to live desired lives.
While undertaking the research, I identified that people who are for same-sex marriage
argue from the perspective of same-sex people being humans, and blaming the society for not
being open-minded. “Love should never mean having to live in fear. ― DaShanne Stokes.”
Same-sex couples have been living in fear, and this is because they are never sure of what the
Saint-Eloi 4
public would have to say about them. This means that they are not sure of what they are doing
hence that is not loved. “What does love mean if we would deny it to others? ― DaShanne
Stokes.” The idea for denying love is the fact that it’s perceived that denying the same-sex
couple from getting married or having relations would deny them, love. Others would think that
also by eliminating this guy from the society and not accepting them as our own is also denying
them love since we are equal. “The world could use more love. Why deny it to others? ―
DaShanne Stokes.” Through DaShanne,s quotes, we should realize that same-sex couples go
through a lot of issues and one of them is not receiving love from the society. Same-sex
marriages can be as a result of gay people not fitting in the society and hence coming together as
a result of desperation and seeking attention from other people who feel the same.
People should understand the concept of love and under what conditions should one
consider to say that they are in love. People should understand that you cannot practice same-sex
marriage because different sex marriage has issues. “Gay people getting married is not a threat to
the institution of marriage. You know what's a threat to the institution of marriage? Infidelity is!
Hate is! Unforgiveness is! Apathy is! Cold-heartedness is! Fear is!, but we should not get into
same sex marriage because things are not working on the other hand ― C. JoyBell C.”
“The Catholic Church standing in “solidarity” with members of the LGBT community
while condemning their behavior as “sinful” is a little like attempting to stand with two feet in
one shoe. “Love the sinner, hate the sin” sounds high-minded until you realize the only sin
committed was being born different. ― Quentin R. Bufogle.” The church should also take a
stand on same-sex marriage and take control of awareness and sensitize the fact that marriage is
a union between a man and woman. “Being homosexual is no more abnormal than being left-
handed. ― Abhijit Naskar.” Abhijit argument is lightly argued since comparing Homosexuals
Saint-Eloi 5
and people born with the left hand is different. Left-handed people do not struggle to be seen and
acknowledged by religion. “Thus, again, marriage is comprehensive in some basic ways, not in
every sense. But the same holds of most revisionists' master principle: a spouse cannot be your
"number one partner" in every activity, or your "soul-mate" in every domain.― Sherif Girgis.”
“Can you imagine, somebody telling you, your love for your dearly beloved is a sin! Can
you imagine, somebody telling you, women are inferior to men, and are meant only serve the
men! Can you imagine, somebody telling you, a man can have multiple wives, and yet be
deemed civilized! Here that somebody is a fundamentalist ape - a theoretical pest from the stone-
age, that somehow managed to survive even amidst all the rise of reasoning and intellect. ―
Abhijit Naskar.” Comparing same-sex marriage to different disorders in the society does not fix
the fact that same-sex marriage is not condoned by religious people and other people from
different societies. This is because marriage has been created to unite man and woman so that
they can bring up a family, at least no religion defies that (Oppenheimer et al). Religion should
be the uniting factor and one that brings same-sex couples before God and teaching what is
wrong and right.
Churches should understand that they have a responsibility to nature people into
marriages. They should also put into consideration what the bible teaches on the matter of same-
sex marriage hence treat it just like it should be treated. Churches should not have mixed feelings
since they guide a number of people in the society and simple mistakes might lead to unforgiven
decisions. “The bible says that a man will unite with a woman, both from different families and
get united to bring forth a family of their own.― Abhijit Naskar.”
“My faith is a choice. My morality is a choice. My sexual orientation however isn't. ―
Anthony Venn-Brown.” We don’t decide how we are born and what gender we belong to. Hence
Saint-Eloi 6
we cannot force ourselves to fit on the opposite gender. “The enemy is not individuals, churches,
'ex-gay' organizations or political parties; the enemy is ignorance. We overcome by focusing on
changing the latter not attacking the former.― Anthony Venn-Brown.” Anthony explains that an
ignorant society would spend time arguing since its morals are not strongly upheld. The society
at large should be able to identify the perception of same-sex marriage and be able to advise
young people on it (Doyle, Carol M., et al.). “Respondents’ argument that allowing same-sex
couples to wed will harm marriage as an institution rests on a counterintuitive view of opposite-
sex couples’ decisions about marriage and parenthood. ― Justice Kennedy”
We cannot all be the same but as different people, the society is different and we ought to
make it better. This is by telling the truth and facts and also teaching that same-sex marriages
have consequences in the society. We should not dismiss the concerns of same-sex couples since
we belong to the same society but rather provide education on it. Same-sex marriages should not
try to get attention but instead get to understand what happens when they go against nature. Most
people are just in same-sex marriages to feel protected or to fit in the society and that’s not the
case of love. The consequences of this acts are severe and downgrading. We should work
towards making the union of marriage stronger and better but not trying to create loopholes on.
Same-sex marriage is just an excuse to not get committed and engage in a responsible
relationship where ones responsibility includes being answerable to the community for your
actions. What needs to be taken into consideration is that same-sex marriage will not work since
the couples cannot do what is expected from a married couple like having children and having
roles that distinguish the two parties in the marriage.
