Coping with Stress
Stress refers to a state of mental or emotional strain; emotional instability (Dohrenwend,
Bruce, and Barbara 179). Stress is never spontaneous, but as a result of one’s daily life activities.
As such, stress management is a critical aspect without which one can die as indeed we’ve read
reports and news of people who have succumbed to stress.
With respect to the above introduction, coping with stress calls for personal efforts to
engage in some activities that can help keep and sustain a stable state of mind. Such activities
include, but not limited to leisure – taking a day out to the swimming pool, hikes, playing golf –
sharing, with a friend the stressing issues, dealing with the stressful situation directly without
postponing it; this will relieve one of the stress contrary to postponing the stress (Dohrenwend,
Bruce, and Barbara 181). Seeking guidance and counselling services over the stressing issue is as
well another key measure.
Ideally, the aforementioned measures help in coping with stress as they work to stabilize
the functioning of the brain neurons and maintain the adrenaline to optimal level (Dohrenwend,
Bruce, and Barbara 181). Taking a day out and sharing with friends help one see life beyond the
confines of one’s job or other personal issues that may cause stress while guidance and
counselling helps one develop insight into some intricate life aspects surrounding the stressing
