Creation Story
In the beginning, the universe was void and hollow. It was formless, and nothing with
discernible structure could move in it. Now it happened mysteriously that something featureless
yet complete was hovering in the empty space. This being was tremendous and had immense
power to influence many things afterword. I call him "Mighty." As the figure was moving over
the empty space, He saw the need to have a companion. So, he gave a deep sigh and breathed out
other formless creatures who were his helpers. So the "Mighty" keep moving in the hollow space
with the helpers as they reminisced the destiny of the hollowness. Heavens and earth had not
come into being, and everything was dead silent and amorphous. The "Mighty" took charge of
the rest of the helpers, and he never changed at any time. He saw the need to create a way
through which posterity could be continued. So he moved around and with his helpers, he
vomited a piece of clay, which became the earth. So, the earth was the first substance that he
ever created. Through his will, he commanded the earth to separate from the heavens, and it so
happened. This process was known as "the way" because "Mighty" saw the purpose and brought
it to actualization. From the way, duality was born, and duality later gave birth to Trinity. It is
from trinity that other myriad creatures came to being. So He looked at all of them and saw that
it was beautiful. In the last stage of creation, He spat on his palm; took a piece of clay and
molded another creature who resembled Him. This was the first man from whom all descended.

Annotation
The creation story elaborated above originates from Chinese mythology. The myth is
known as "Tao Te Ching.” This myth falls under the category of “accretion.Accretion is the
category of creation myth that justifies the existence of the creatures from such divine emissions
as vomit, urination or sweat among others. In this story, the creator spat on his hand and molded
the first human being from whom everyone descended.
Tao Te Ching is an account of the existence, estimated to be written in the period around
the 4
th
century. It explains the origin of the cosmos from a less mythical perspective by
refereeing to sequences of creations. The concept "way" also known as "Dao" is the foundation
of this story and is also the origin of every other creature. Just like the way gave birth to duality,
duality also gave birth to Trinity which is also the mother of all creatures. It acknowledges that
the earth was formless and void, also referred to as "Wuji,” and with a great being that no other
power can confront, “Taiji.” Heaven and earth are referred to as yin and yang, and this is the
duality that gave birth to Trinity. The primary documentation of this story is available in chapter
42 of Tao. Taoism is a philosophy in China which stresses the harmonious existence between
human beings and fundamental ideas. Its effects are adverse in China, influencing a significant
section of the universe including legalists, Confucians, and Buddhists. So, the text of Tao Te
Ching helps people who practice Taoism to prove their existence and why they value what they
do.
