Background and context of the Survey.
There is a general acceptance that the role of combating crime in the society must have the
input of the community and the ordinary citizens working in collaboration with the criminal
justice system. However, many victims of violence in the society today sometimes feel that the
justice department is not doing enough to combat crime and put the criminals behind bars for
long enough to make them change their behavior and reform to be responsible citizens (Waldron,
Quarles, & McElreath, 2009). Furthermore, the number of young people joining gangs in the
urban areas is on the rise, and the number of convicted repeat offenders has been on the rise.
There is need to establish the underlying causes of crimes in the society today and how they have
impacted on the attitudes of the community and victims of violence on the criminal justice
system. This survey is set to address some fundamental issues in the way in which the society
today respond to the calls by the justice system to be part of the team helping mitigate and
eliminate crime in the society.
Research questions.
This survey seeks to establish the attitude of the society towards the criminal justice
system and the measures it has put in place to combat crime in our streets. Moreover, the opinion
of the victims of previous atrocities that include bullying on the streets, mugging, and violence
will be sought on their view of the criminal justice system in fighting crimes. It will be
established from the perspectives of reformed criminals as well as members organized criminal
gangs what their views on the practices of the justice system that are hindering reforms in the
society to help end crime. The community also has an important part to play in assisting the law
enforcement agencies to bring order in the society. Could the community be failing in its
