Major Crises Facing the United States
Emergence of Identity Politics
United States society continues to manifests pronounced symptoms of identity politics: a brand
of social order that appeals to sectarian constructs such as ethnicity or religion. In recent months,
approaches to social issues by the general public suggests deep-seated differences among
citizens, which existed in past centuries during before and after the American civil war.
(Greenblatt) notes that conservatives are seemingly pushing divisive social issues with objectives
and momentum that may trigger social disorganization. Noteworthy, the American society is
considered the hallmark of socialization and modernism. That said, the attempts to plunge the
country into identity politics threatens the stability of the American society by reversing the civil
liberties that make the country a point of reference in the community of nations. However, the
recent manifestation of the intent by a section of the Americans is a major emerging crisis that
may result in social disorganization.
Immigration and Homeland Security
In recent years, immigration has emerged as a very contentious concern for the United States
citizens and government. An influx of immigrants in recent decades was triggered by friendly
immigration policy and porous borders now emerges as a course for concern due to the severe
adverse implications that are linked to the unregulated entry of people into the United States. In

progressively due to the presence of abettors or aiders of the crime who have acquired
citizenship. In recent years, the resurgence of resilient terrorist groups in particular Asian
countries continues to threaten the homeland security due to the country’s friendly immigration
policy and the presence of naturalized abettors and aiders of terrorism, which is a possibility.
Major Crises Facing the World.
Climate Change
In the 20th and 21
st
century, the universe has recorded changes in the statistical distribution of
weather elements that have persisted across millenniums. According to previous literature,
changes in weather patterns have adverse implications on the ecosystem. The severest impacts
felt in the ecosystem are accelerated by depletion of damage to natural resources such as water
catchment systems and diminishing of arable land by the forces of climate change. Alternately,
changes in the concentration of atmospheric pressure is considered by experts to harbor adverse
health impacts on human life and other living things. Experts warn that notable signs of climate
change such as acidification of the ocean and water shortages are a grave major crisis that can
distort humanity’s environmental and economic order.
Food Crisis
Global food crisis affects the world on two fronts: production and consumption. The production
crisis is occasioned by many intertwined human and natural factors. Continually, growing world
population makes food security a looming crisis. The United Nations World Food Program
estimates that nearly a billion people suffer effects of food insecurity around the world.
Currently, the developed world may do not meet the demand for safe and nutritious food for its
population. Similarly, the developing world does not offer sustainable food supply for its

population with sufficiency and regularity. Therefore, the growing world population makes food
a critical world crisis.
The second food-related crisis takes the form of quality of the food and health
implications associated with its consumption. Poor quality of food consumed in various places
exposes the general public to serious health risks. In this regard, previous literature explains that
poor food quality is responsible for common health challenges such as obesity, diabetes, and
cardiovascular diseases. Evidently, the diseases have raised concern around the world because
they are complex and treatment services are neither easily accessible nor affordable in some of
the communities where the foods are consumed in large scale. Therefore, the interpretation of
food crisis should address the elements of production and consumption.
