CRISIS INTERVENTION WORKERS 2
Crisis Intervention Workers
The use of the Roberts’ seven stage model is essential in a theoretical framework since
it builds on the principle of crisis theory. Some of its stages are sequential while some overlap
providing a targeted approach that stabilizes, resolves and interprets the situation presented to
a crisis worker. First, the model advocates for the assessment of the bio psychosocial setup of
the patient with an inclusion of any threat they may pose. Second, making a psychological
contact with the patient is integral if any change is to be made or any developments are to be
achieved as a result of the interaction. Third, the crisis worker determines the major problems
facing the patient followed by an exploration of strategies that can be used to resolve the
crisis. Subsequently, an action plan is developed with by the crisis worker that ensures that
normal functioning is restored in the patient. Finally, follow up sessions are encouraged to
assess the progress of the patient.

feel pain or by inflicting it on themselves (HxBenefit Team, 2013). Cassandra has expressed
the need to hurt a family member, has attempted suicide multiple times and smiles when
talking about negative deeds that she has done. The crisis worker may attempt to change the
behavioral patterns and belief systems of the patient. However, referral to an appropriate
medical facility is advised since the process may take time. Other ways that the workers might
help is through either group therapy or behavior modification therapy which offers help in
changing the personality traits and coping mechanisms of the patient.
