Critical thinking on employee treatment
Equal employment is a guarantee for every employee’s opportunity to get fair treatment
as other employees have. Protection of the employees should be considerate of organization
policies. Employees should get handled according to their age, religion, not discriminated from
others and given opportunities like fellow employees. It is important for organization operations.
It’s a fact that female employees at their youth stages get regarded to as more productive.
Pregnant women have maternity leave rights according to the Pregnancy Discrimination Act. It’s
the duty of the department involved to make sure that an employee is given leave for health
safety. It ensures the mother and child safety. As the HR manager, it would have been easier
considering the employee health rather than terminating the employment contract.
Conflict over an employee’s pregnancy at UPS
The HR department should ensure that a pregnant woman has the right to have maternity
leave. Pregnancy Discrimination Act protects pregnant women in the workforce (Mathis,
Jackson, Valentine, & Meglich, 2017). Their rights should get observed, and they should receive
their pay if they had submitted their request for a leave. It ensures that they get paid even when
on leaves.
The HR manager at UPS should have ensured that the pregnant woman is paid to enable
her to have the ability to handle her needs. He should have ensured that she is paid a favorable
amount to meet her expenses during the leave. The employee’s immediate manager should not
have terminated her employment and rather preserve her position and set back her position as an
employee.

Critical thinking on workforce
Changes in the employment of a company’s workforce have been a major influence on
employees. The changes should be adopted in favor of both the company and the employees. The
changes should not affect the two parties negatively. Changes in the way employees provide
services should favor them according to employment terms.
The nature of employment and jobs changing affects organizations and employees.
Employees may feel characterized to overworking or relief from some duties. The nature of jobs
may change due to the changes in the operations of an organization. These changes should be
done in a way they do not affect all operations of an organization.
Unilever’s Agile Working program
The HR department is the liable department in ensuring that all workers have favorable
working conditions. These conditions should consider the work-life balance of employees in the
organization (Mathis, Jackson, Valentine, & Meglich, 2017). The management should ensure
that they put up the conditions to allow production is at their targeted point. The HR department
should make sure they adopt these conditions in a way they don’t discriminate employees.
Agile working program in Unilever was an important step taken by the management. This
working program would favor all workers including pregnant women who can provide their
services while still at home. The program is, therefore, a benefit to both the company and the
employees since it will not affect the workforce of every individual regardless of their
geographical locations. Flexible working conditions increase employee productivity that is the
main goal of an organization.
