Importance of sports management
The importance of sports management can be broadly classified into two domains. One is with
respect to a personal sports manager for an athlete and the other for an organization in general.
Both involve the use of all the analytical skills and aspects of sports management. From a
personal sports management point of view, there is some important task that has to be performed.
Some of which are to keep the athlete healthy and providing a proper nutritionist and dietician
appointment, having a daily record of his/her performance in the sports, gathering information on
the next scheduled competitions, searching for suitable sponsors for his/her clients, determining
the accounts and expenditures and providing some psychological advice to keep him/her
motivated. This varied works performed by a personal sports manager is both important and
useful for the athlete to perform at his/her optimum levels.
The importance of sports management at an organization or at an event level is different from the
one at the personal level. In the event level, one has to do a lot of important tasks such as crowd
control and regulation, integrating the drug monitoring team with the athletes performance and
testing them within the stipulated time, preparing a schedule for the events in an orderly and
more logical formats, improving the sponsors cooperation and resolve the disputes between them
if any of them arises, assessing the risk management of the whole event and recommending a
reactionary plan for the same, reducing the communication gaps between different groups,
improving the stakeholders interest in the event and collecting the equipment that is necessary
for the events and all other regulations as well as budgetary planning. In this way, the role of a
sports management is the event or at an organization is competitive compared to the one at the
personal level.
