Cultural visitors refers to the individuals who move into foreign countries for the reasons
of cultural attraction. On the other hand, immigrants is a term that is generally used to refer to
individuals who move from their native countries to another country in which they are not citizens
of, and reside there. This discussion outlines a comparison of responsibilities and obligations
which these two groups of people have to the host country’s culture.
Any individual from another country, whether a cultural visitor or an immigrant may
experience a change in the culture’s way of living while in a foreign country. This is because
different countries have different cultures and we appreciate the diversity. An immigrant has the
responsibility to adopt the ways of living of the host country. Since this group of people go to a
foreign country with an aim of residing there and not just for a short period of time, therefore the
individual has to adopt the culture of the host country so that he or she can interact well with the
natives of that country. For example, if a person who comes from a country where a certain
behavior, such as same sex marriage is acceptable and decides to become a permanent resident of
a host country where the behavior is against the host country’s culture, the immigrant has to just
live as per the culture of the host country.

On the other hand, a cultural visitor may not necessarily have to adopt the way of living of
the host country. This is because the aim of the individual is to just tour the country for a short
period of time and go back to his or her native country.
Both the immigrants and the cultural visitors should not engage in behavior that they find
in the host country, if they feel the behavior is morally wrong according to the culture of their
native countries. For instance, if a foreigner finds that the host country’s native dress in a manner
that he or she does not approve, the visitor should not be forced to dress like them. However, the
visitor should respect the culture. Mediated communication that has mostly been used by
multinational corporations may not necessarily bring any difference in communication between
the visitor and the host (Willis-Rivera, 2010). The main aim is communication and ensuring that
the visitors do not lead to the erosion of the host country’s culture.
