Through comparison, one can always spot out some similarities between tap dance, jazz,
and musical theatre. Jazz dance is said to evolve from tap dance. As such, there are some
resemblances in moves. This includes the frequent use of syncopation which dancers make to
accompany a particular beat or rhythm. Also, the jazz, tap and musical theatre can all be traced
back out of America. Besides, they can be seen in theatres, movies, videos, dance studios, and
concerts. On the other hand, the three show difference in that jazz is from African indigenous;
tap is related to the indigenous Caribbean while musical theatre is majorly influenced by African
American cultural groups.
One of the musical theatre productions I have had the pleasure of watching is some of the
spectacular performances by the Phantom of Opera about songs like ‘Music of the Night’. I
watched their live performance in New York. The dance sequence in the performance was
rhythmic with changes in energy levels hence the dance ensured the continuity of the story. The
uniqueness of the dance sequences also portrayed the personalities of the performers as they
embraced the music while they had fun.

influential in the modern days. Typically, the music consists of rapping, rhythmic and rhyming
speech, assonance, and alliteration. The singer/rapper is often accompanied by an instrumental
beat performed by a disk jockey (DJ) or the producer. In some cases, rapping may not be
required to complete the hip-hop music. Rather, the incorporation of other musical elements such
as DJing, turntabling, scratching and beatboxing is enough to create a hip-hop music.
In the recent decades, social dances have gained popularity at an accelerating rate. One of the
main reasons could be attributed to the nature of the dance. Most of these social dances are
partner dances and includes salsa, west coast swing, merengue, bachata, and swing among others
(Kenrick). These dances are able to attract the majority of an audience since it mostly involves
the opposite genders, for instance, couples or friends dating. This not only sets the dancers in a
romantic mood but also improves the popularity of the dance.
Personally, I love dancing so much. However, I dance depending on the occasion. For instance,
during wedding ceremonies or dinner, my favorite dance move is salsa. This dance move sets the
romantic ambiance suitable for the occasion.
The traditional folk dance has been a huge part of the diverse cultural landscape for many
years. Besides, it has contributed a lot to the entire music and dance industry. However, there are
some challenges that can be foreseen in the future. With the advancement of technology and
computerization more and more societies are forgetting with their traditions and embracing a
new dance style. This makes people to continuously ignore the traditional folk dances.
The growth of technology ecosystems, the production equipment will be more advanced
in suiting the people in 2027 to choose modern music of their own choosing. This will greatly
favor hip-hop culture in the process. Besides, the advancement in the social media will also

incorporate the social society to get accessed to the musical trends. Moreover, the politicians will
also get consumed and support the modern inventions.
