Global Warming and Ecosystems: Negative Impacts of Global Warming
Global warming refers to the unusual rise in the temperature of the earth’s atmosphere. It
has been closely linked to the greenhouse effect, increase in levels of carbon (II) oxide and
chlorofluorocarbons. Global warming adversely affects the environment in numerous aspects and
respects with agriculture, wildlife and aquatic life being impacted the most. It has been a
considerable source of devastation as it remorselessly advances with insufficient measures put in
place to combat it and its effects.
Agriculture is one of the most impacted aspects of the world economy. When toxic fumes
emitted by manufacturing plants are released into the atmosphere they cause acid rain which is
highly detrimental to plants and forests. Due to its extremely corrosive nature, acid rain wears
out the barks of many plants. The bark of any plant entails the xylem which is essential in
transportation of glucose and food. The results in untold loses and extensive deforestation which
is prone to causing desertification. Acid rain further falls on fertile farming lands and leaches out
important nutrients rendering agricultural development retarded. Further to this, also important to
note is that upon falling on rivers, the water is deemed harmful to plants. This makes it
impossible to carry out irrigation which is crucial in the sustenance of agricultural life (Ambrose,
2017). Therefore, it is undisputable that Global Warming negatively impacts the agricultural
sector through impeding its processes from progressing.

Aquatic life has also been equally impacted as agriculture by Global Warming. When
acid rain caused by excessive emission of toxic fumes into the atmosphere falls on water bodies,
the natural food chain destabilizes. This is because aquatic plants that serve as food to fish and
other aquatic animals die upon exposure to acid rain. Eventually, the aquatic animals succumb to
hunger and poisoning as their natural habitats turn unbearable. People depending on fish farming
for sustenance undergo severe economic crisis. Acid rain renders some species of fish vulnerable
to unprecedented infections than can further afflict humanity. It also makes some types of aquatic
animals susceptible to extinction in cases where they are only peculiar to specific habits.
Harmful waste released into water bodies by manufacturing companies can also be harmful to
aquatic life since it contains in considerable amounts substances that are not friendly to any form
of life (Donald, 2016). Evidently, Global Warming, through its various ways of occurrence, has
had adverse effects on aquatic life leading to enormous loses.
Global warming also negatively affects wildlife in equal measure as human and domestic
life. Toxic fumes emitted by manufacturing plants are harmful for both human and animal
consumption. Inhalation of such poisonous gases leads to infections of the respiratory system.
This puts life at stake as some diseases may not have the necessary medication already
developed. When acid rain falls on plants that are naturally food to wildlife their existence
becomes unstable as life begins to gradually decline (Francis, 2016). Therefore, it is safe to
conclude that Global Warming adversely affects wildlife through disrupting the stability of the
natural food chain.
Thus, it is conclusive that Global Warming is detrimental to life in every form of it.
Governments should effectuate measures that will reduce the causes of Global Warming in bid to
protect life. Global Warming results in devastation in many aspects of development. Its negative

impacts on life can be far-reaching since they affect the most significant aspects of progress.
Global Warming is a threat to life and should be treated with the seriousness required to entirely
combat it.
