DECISION MAKING USING THE PROBLEM SOLVING APPROACH2
Introduction
Before choosing to advance studies and attain a bachelor’s degree, an individual must
have sufficient reasons to support his/her choice. The most obvious reason is to acquire better
salaries and promotions in jobs. In this case, the scenario is about two possible job opportunities
regarding two companies with each, having probabilities and conclusions. The problem in this
situation is, therefore, which company to work for and why. Subsequently, the first step is to
study the problem. This involves focusing on the advantages of working for the new company
over the old organization, and vice versa. The second step involves studying the disadvantages
that come with working for either of the companies and then selecting the company that is more
likely to be in line with the individual’s goals.
Analysis of the problem
There is need to analyze the problem and understand what exactly an individual wants to
solve(Halpern, 2014). Notably, I have worked with one of the companies before, and it was a
good experience. The supervisor of that company gives good recommendations regarding my job
performance showing that I gave the work my best. Nevertheless, the competing company has a
better salary offer that exceeds the previous with $15,000. However, working for this new
organization would require an individual to proceed with studies to attain a master’s degree.
However, the company does not offer any training for the studies, thus, that will be an
individual’s expense. The old company that I worked for offers tuition reimbursement, which is
therefore, an advantage if a person is to study for his/her masters. The $15,000 additional salary
appears to be a great deal. Notably, an employee is required to attend college for masters and that
extra pay might as well be even lower than the school fees. Conversely, if the fee requirement for
the master’s course is too small in comparison with the benefits of this company, it is as well a
