TITLE 2
The responsibility of caring for old people lies in the hands of their families and more
importantly, the government. Families should ensure that the old people are well taken care of in
both their emotional, physical and psychological needs. This can be done by ensuring that the
elderly have access to healthcare and basic needs such as clothing.
The family that has an elderly person has the responsibility to ensure that he or she has
the necessary documents such as an identity card and health insurance so as to comply with the
government regulations. In such a case, the government would be able to offer financial
assistance to the elderly person so as his or her needs can be met.
In many countries, the government has regulations regarding the retirement and health
policy in which the elderly person who has retired can access retirement benefits and funds that
can enable him or her to live in a dignified manner. Moreover, this government regulatory role
has played a major impact in many countries to ensure that the elderly people live a healthy and
comfortable life thus leading to a high life expectancy period.
The main reason that the government should be responsible for taking care of its elderly
people is that they were previously in the workforce of the nation and that they are, in most cases
law abiding citizens who have been paying their taxes to the government. Nevertheless, the
government has a role to treat their elderly citizens with dignity and take care of them as they
have been useful in the nation’s economic and political growth. Taking care of the elderly people
is should thus be a responsibility of the government to its people which can be facilitated by their
families.
