Engineering Ethics
Key Components of American Society of Civil Engineering (ASCE)
As Engineers, the professionals need to prioritize safe technique, hence good health
and welfare regarding the population. In addition, one has to participate according to the
competence in a particular field. One has to maintain professionalism and offer objective
connotations. The service to the employer or employee should be satisfactory. Moreover, the
rise in merit standards of an individual needs to be transparent and competitive. The
professionals have the duty to uphold the good morals of the field and avoid corruption and
related activities. After acquiring the skills and knowledge, one shall serve the people for
long and bequeath the skills to junior associates (Flavel, 2012).
Similarities with Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers
The health, safe techniques, and welfare that the population deserve is similar. In
addition, one has to maintain professionalism and minimize conflicts. Bribery has no leniency
and the punishment is gross. The sense of togetherness is fundamental. Such include helping
colleagues solve challenges and offering new knowledge to the upcoming engineers. Notably,
transparency when giving quotations to the clients strengthens the trust between service
providers and consumers (Flavel, 2012).
Differences
The ASCE codes of ethics strictly demands that the engineers should only focus on
the field that one has prowess and not digress. Competency is a priority as per the codes.
Also, the competition to sell oneself to the public should be according to the merits and
transparency is a pivotal entity. Once a civil engineer, one remains a professional for life and
legible to offer various types of services (Flavel, 2012).
My Opinion
The strictness on one’s field of practice is an important entity to avoid
uncertainties. When people focus on a specific field, then the individuals practice to be
perfect. Therefore, in case of mistake, then one becomes culpable for punishment with no
chance of excuses that someone had digressed to a different department. Furthermore,
advertising oneself to the public according to the merits encourages healthy competition and
professionalism.

Subject: American Society Civil Engineer versus IEEE Ethics.
Codes of ethics in the profession of Engineering are important to ensure that the
professionals maintain ones’ credibility when offering services. The ethics offer guidance and
helps avoid chaotic situations where everyone would do as they please. Organization in a
firm or a particular department determines the ability to offer satisfactory services to the
clients. The two codes of ethics are of different fields and share some similarities and there
are differences too.
Note that, in the above article there is focus on the two ethics, ASCE and IEEE.
Foremost, I have noted the main directions that the ASCE ethics offer. As an independent
field of engineering, civil and construction is important in the development of various
structural facilities in a state. Therefore, the credibility of the profession means that the
building and roads under constructions will be up to standards. Additionally, I compared and
contrasted the two codes as a form of analysis.
As a reader, one needs to understand and internalize the codes and hold accountable
any professional that digresses. In addition, when the audiences have the knowledge
regarding the ethics, then the professional will have the obligation to uphold professionalism
and avoid unnecessary lawsuits. After reading the article, in case one needs clarification, then
the reader should present a specific question and to the specific person, for instance, a civil or
electric engineer. Alternatively, the reader can offer q critique concerning specific entities of
the ethics. Essentially, the article would be useful to individuals with plans to practice as
engineers.
