Corporate social responsibility requires a company to implement programs and policies that
will increase the social status of the company. This is where the company is required to
implement strategies that will increase the standards of the community through the product and
service production. The corporate social responsibility policy of a company makes it possible to
evaluate the accountability of the company to the community and the environment. According to
PG&E Corporation (2017) the company has engaged in the following corporate social
responsibility in 2016; keeping the electric and gas bills affordable, providing customer
satisfaction, save $258 million for the consumers, reduction of carbon dioxide emission by
nearly 1.4 million metric tons, interconnection 300,000 solar consumers and provided $28
million to charitable organization for community sustainability. These social corporate practices
increased the sale of the gas and electric services to the targeted consumers. CSR has a positive
impact on PG&E Corporation due to increase of value, acquisition of new consumer, retention of
consumers and improves the reputation of the company in the targeted market (Cheng, Ioannou
& Serafeim 2014). It is essential to implement critical thinking in CSR by effectively analyzing
the needs of the consumers to develop policies that will be widely accepted by the diverse
stakeholders of the company.
