FACILITATOR INFLUENCE ON SOCIAL JUSTICE CURRICULA 2
Discussion
The identity of individuals is quite important in teaching, especially in social justice. It
shapes the strategies that the teacher employs and how the students perceive information and
understand them. This discussion reflects on identity and teaching capacity. The different
populations in which the teaching skills would be the most effective are composed of those who
feel that they have been unjustly dealt with. Such populations include the minority ethnic groups
who have a language barrier and those who do not speak English as the first language. These
populations may benefit immensely from the teachers’ language skills. The populations that
would be most challenging in applying teaching skills in the social justice curricula include the
ones who feel discriminated against in terms of ethnicity and skin color, gender, sexual
orientation, and religious affiliation. It may be difficult to deal with such people because they not

them feel like they do not belong.
The major characteristics that shape the teaching capacity in social justice education are
age, race, gender, religion, ethnicity, and sexual orientation. However, other factors that
influence the teaching capacity include language capabilities, ICT skills, self-assessment, the
teacher’s understanding of the individual students’ needs, and the attitudes of both the students
and the teachers (Differ, 2013). The language dictates how the teacher would relate to the
students, ICT skills enabled the teacher to use various innovative techniques to meet the
students’ needs, and the right attitudes can help the teacher and student understand each other
and create a conducive environment for learning. One of the most challenging environments to
facilitate the social curricula is the online platform since the students would not get a chance to
express themselves easily. The best strategy to employ in such an environment is to introduce a
