Factors which are related to academic success in high-school students
High school education is what shapes your life and future; therefore faring well is always the
number one priority as a student. Many students resort to drowning themselves in textbook
and class notes. However academic success in high school does not entirely depend on such,
there are many other factors that are related to academic success in high school students this
can be social or personal as discussed below
Family background is one of the major factors that affect academic success in high school
student. In that there are some families who to them learning is of great value, therefore they
actively participate in their child education ways such as supervision, monitoring and
motivation, which is supervising their homework, monitoring their final year grades, advising
accordingly, and motivating them by making them a promise when they attain set goals and
objectives in their education. Nevertheless there are also families who don’t value learning as
of great value hence neglecting their child education this in return affects the academic
success of the student negatively
Secondly willingness to learn is also a factor related to academic success in high school
student. The student must have a desire and an aim in learning. They should have set goals
and objectives towards their academic success; therefore they should be studious and
hardworking in the aim of achieving those set goals and objective. The student should have a
positive attitude toward learning, therefore avoid missing of classes, always concentrating in
class and ensuring they have completed their classwork. Otherwise unwillingness to learn and
negative attitude towards learning would affect their success negatively.
Learning environment of the student also has a great impact on their success. The
environment surrounding the student may influence them positively or negatively. Some
environments are more conducive to learning and academic performance. For instance a quiet
conducive environment will be more preferable for taking a test to a noisy environment.
Another aspect of the learning environment is safety. A secure learning environment would
be more preferable to an unsecure environment since the student would be able to learn at
ease without any outside or any interference. In addition to the physical environment such as
cleanliness, color, class density also influences the learning habits of the student hence
influencing the success of the student
