Family Health Challenge
Being a member of the Forsyth County, It was intriguing on learning the Family Health
Challenge that was being conducted by Novant Health in conjunction with American Heart
Association. Jade, Winnie, and Marie opted to take part in the challenge or sponsorship since
they were always keen on ways in which they can manage to engage in healthy diets considering
the high desire for rich but unhealthy food products. For Jade, it is hard to refrain from the high
sugar ingredient she uses in her baking, however, after periods of trials; she has managed to
change to no-calorie sweeteners for her baking (Anwar, et al., 2015).
Winnie had a huge liking for soft drinks and beverages, and it was quite a challenge for
her to refrain from taking a bottle of soda after nearly every meal. She had to consider switching
from the sugary drinks to low-sugar and calorie-free beverages, and she was very impressed due
to the health and weight benefits she was receiving (Anwar, et al., 2015).. On learning the facts
concerning the amount of sugar contained in the soft while she consumes, which is similar to
taking ten teaspoons of sugar, she could not resist replacing its soft drinks with water. Marie
would add several slices of citrus or cucumber to her water bottle, and the flavor was refreshing,
and Winnie could not resist this new drink (Sturmberg, et al., 2016).
Constant reminders from Marie brought enough assisting all to the dangers associated
with consumption of high-calorie drinks and other foods. The majority of the lifestyle diseases
suffered is usually related to the ignorance of many to checking the label in the items they pick
from the shelves in the food stores (Sturmberg, et al., 2016). Therefore, it is paramount to engage
in healthy lifestyles regarding diet, and there will be a significant growth in the health status.
