factors, economic factors, and environmental factors. Historical events have clearly proved this,
for instance during times of war, some people starve because food cannot reach them or their
political affiliations denies them access to food. Luckily, even with the predicted increase in
global population, the overall hunger levels are expected to decrease.
Poor agricultural practices affect the quantity of food production adversely. The growing
demand for food demands advanced agricultural technologies and practices to meet the required
supply amounts (Ardelean, 2013, 5). Outdated agricultural methods and lack of extensive
research are drawbacks to large-scale production, which is mandatory in order to feed the ever-
growing global population (Rosen, S., & Shapouri, S., 2012, 1). Stable economic times are
closely related to food security whereas harsh economics usually culminate into a food crisis.
Food crisis cannot be prevented completely; rather, the situation can be alleviated if the
right measures are in place. Sustainable agriculture is the first measure, whereby large-scale
production is the major agricultural practice in most areas (Aizinova, I. M., 2015, 1). It entails
mechanized farming with appropriate use of fertilizers and other chemicals to boost the yield.
Even though a lot of capital is required to actualize sustainable agriculture, the benefits are far-
reaching compared to the effects of a food crisis. Large tracts of land are required opposed to the
traditional methods with new technologies simplifying farming and maximizing the produce.
Another way is by improving the biodiversity in agricultural practices through processes such as
planting of genetically diverse crop species (Ardelean, 2013, 5). This helps to prevent extreme
loses in case a crop species suffers draught or attack by diseases and pests.
Finally, policy plays a critical role in ensuring there is food security at every stage.
Having the appropriate plans and programs executed properly and timely is a key step in
