with the American flag was still transporting slaves to America. Lafayette was surprised to see
that he fought for American’s freedom and it had become a land of slavery. Thus, this triggered
him in making that statement mentioned above. The idea of freedom communicated a different
message for the Americans. For example, for some of them to be free meant having 500 hundred
slaves working under their custody in the tobacco farms. Thomas Jefferson who was known to be
a life liberator owned many slaves, and during his entire lifetime, he fled less than five.
During the beginning of colonies, slavery was not a major issue. Early in the 17th
century, Africans slaves were brought to the Latin America and South America by the
Portuguese and Spanish. The Jamestown colony introduced the first slave. However, the
American slavery evolved at a high rate mostly because most of the US citizens preferred the
African slaves because of their immunity for epidemic diseases, experience, and low possibilities
of escaping. The African slaves had previous knowledge and experience in rice and sugar
production; therefore, they easily adapted to the working conditions. Additionally, they were
conspicuous due to their skin color and did not have allies; thus, they could not escape easily.
Slavery has evolved dramatically over the years. The slaves were able to articulate and
fight for their freedom, ensuring that they sought equal rights in the United States. Slavery was
reduced at the time. Many of the Americans held diverse ideologies regarding the issue of
slavery. They believed that everyone was equal before the eyes of their founding fathers,
whereas they still kept the concepts of slavery. The United States at this time was achieving a
revolution, with equality of rights among all individuals. Marquis Lafayette was among the
activists debating on the contradictions between slavery and liberty in the new nation. All slaves
desired their freedom.
