Get Over Your Selfie
Ryan Dobson in his article Get Over Your Selfie suggests that people should get over
the cliché of all me, all the time. He says that it’s not only about oneself, not about what you
are receiving from someone but how both parties fair. People should not be selfish but should
be there to make each other better people meaning that the relationship should not be one-
sided.
Dobson gives an example of Kim Kardashian’s New Selfie Book and how readers
will pay not less than $20 to go through 352 pages of these photos which he says are of bad
lighting and self-absorption. This makes him say that the end is really near. He gives some of
the predicaments that these selfies may land people into citing of the Polish couple who
backed off the cliff which leads to their death. The couple had climbed over the guardrails
just to have selfies (Dobson).
People need to change and not be about all themselves all the time. They should think
of other people. People drop the baton when they don’t think past themselves. They lose their
best selves and their best chances to help what comes next. The baton is passed when people
learn to care for others and not only what they get back from others.
People should be like MV. Billingham who was about to take someone’s life, but
changed his mind and took prayers as his secret weapon. He prayed for his generations that
he couldn’t even live to see. He had a strong sense of more than him. This is what needs to be
emulated, to “get over your selfie,” think about others too and pass the baton. This will make
the world a better place.
