Graduate School Application Essay
I entered into the college of business to pursue a business-related course but my own
personal career goals began to take place after taking Introduction to Financial Accounting as a
course requirement. My professor inspired me to pursue a life of accountancy after hearing his
story of on how he was able to help turn Jiffy Lubes business around by inputting better internal
controls. While at Florida State, I had the privilege to be taught Federal Taxation 1 by Mr.
Jimmy Woodward. He was a former Keebler CFO and inspired me to dig deeper into my career
goals and join Alpha Kappa Psi, a professional business fraternity and run for pledge as a class
treasurer which helped me to developed the personal attribute of leadership.
My career goals started with the 2008-2009 financial crisis. When the economy was great
our lives were great but when the banks faltered and people began to lose their jobs our world
began to come crashing in. I soon discovered that I wanted to be able to help people and their
businesses through difficulties to success. Which has led me to my short-term goal of receiving
my Masters in Accounting and then becoming CPA certified. With that I hope to achieve my
long-term goal of one day becoming the CFO of a fortune 500 company, so that I can in some
way help that company be financially smart and fiscally responsible. In my efforts to achieve
these goals, I aspire to become a distinguished professional in the accounting industry.
I was able to shape my personal attributes and my interests in line with my career goals
by joining organization of Women in Accounting. This was inspired by the domination of male
in accounting. The entire purpose of this club is to lead and inspire women to defy social
expectations in the work space and to never let these gender biases steer you away from success.
