Evidence-Based Nursing Practice
America and other countries have encouraged medical attendants to use the evince-based
approach in their professional practice. Apparently, several nations have reported a negative
response from health professionals towards evidence-based practice (EBP). With the evidence-
based approach, patients have been able to experience ideal treatment. One of the aspects of the
evidence-based practice is that it encourages nurses to use research when dealing with the needs
of the sick. As such, it is appalling that some health organizations are yet to make their
operations to conform to the recommendations of the evidence-based approach. Although the
evidence-based practice is ideal for the health sector, it seems that some barriers impede the
actualization of the evidence-based approach.
Nurses have a negative perception towards further education. Considerably, most nurses
perceive further education as an avenue that people use to get promotions at work. Such an
attitude is wrong since people internalize the practices of evidence-based approach when they
improve their educational standards. A post-graduate qualification in nursing exposes a person to
the appropriate ways of carrying out research that coincides with improved health care (Wallis,
2012). However, most nurses think that education is meant to improve their employment status.
Most health facilities do not create the appropriate environment to promote maximum
adoption of evidence-based practice. For evidence-based practice to thrive, nurse leaders should
ensure that there are mechanisms that support this tradition among the nurses. Commonly, health
facilities organize seminars that are meant to impart the staff with EBP skills. However, this has
failed to yield positive behavior towards EBP. What the management of health organizations
should focus on is to introduce EBP mentors who will work with nurses even at the bedside
HEALTHCARE 3
(Gray, Joy, Plath & Webb, 2013). With such an approach, the nurses will adopt EBP as part of
their daily professional experience.
