HOW MUCH PEOPLE DEPEND ON HEROES? 2
How much people depend on heroes?
Introduction
A hero is someone who does good and courageous things for others without being asked
to do so. He or she finds joy in being a source of hope and motivation to humanity, which calls
for great bravery and strength. In the current life, however, such people are rare since many are
selfish and only think of their well-being and prosperity, which has also lead to a reduction of
trust among one another.
However, DC and Marvel Cinematic Universes continue to encourage humanity that
heroism can still exist and impacts us in different ways. A report by (KQED Pop, 2013) shows
that one of the ways that people depend on these heroes is to escape reality. Escapism is the state
of a short leave from the ordinary life whereby one forgets the worries of the world for a while
and enjoys another world where one has total control over what happens there. In the films, one
is confident that they are secure and safe since there is a hero to save the day.
Another way in which the heroes influence humanity is they bring a cause of self-
reflection. They challenge us with their state of perfection; punctuality, proper grooming, perfect
body shapes and healthy eating habits too. People who want to be heroes thus have to emulate
them and rise to the challenge. Other than self-reflection, there is a broad reflection of the desire
to have a hero. Someone who can make it happen for us within a snap of a finger, one who can
save us from challenges and tasks. Someone to have our assignment done without us lifting a
finger. This way has been the cause of the desire to poses a particular superpower by many as
you will hear them asking each other what power they would like to poses.
Empowerment is another way in which the heroes influence the humanity. For instance,
Christopher Reeve; the character of Superman III was later a hero in the real sense for people
