Doctor Faustus is a Christian play mostly shows and deals with themes touch on matters
of the heart of a Christian. To start with there is the idea of sin which gets defined by Christians
to be an act that is complete to the will of God. In the play, there is the making of a deal with
Lucifer. However I a Christian setting it is believed that every sin ca get forgiven despite the
impact it has. For the forgiveness, it all needs one to get redemption through the power of Jesus
Christ who is the son of God. In the Christian faith, they believe that Jesus died on the cross to
save humankind from their sins. A Midsummer Night’s Dream is among the great works of
Shakespeare’s which have sparks sparkling romantic farce. Romance should be sweet with lots
of happiness but in this play despite the love and romance here’s some cruelty and darkness. In
this essay, I will get to Compare and contrast doctor Faustus and midsummer’s night dream
basing it on a theme and an element.
In midsummer’s night dream, there is the theme of love. The play starts with characters
who are Greek mythology. The character is the Duke of Athens, Amazon queen Hippolita and
Theseus who are planning for their marriage. It is during the planning of Theseus marriage that
he has to assist Egeus to persuade Hermia his daughter to get married to Demetrius. It is just

unfortunate that both Egeus and Duke Fail to persuade Hermia into getting married to Demetrius
so the fairies (another set of characters. It is through the actions of every aspect that there is a
show of love making the human crazy yet it moves the world. Love is something that needs to be
felt with the heart, and once someone touches it, their life can change forever.
In midsummer’s night dream, the dominant theme is pride. It gets named as among the
significant seven most deadly sins. It also gets argued that it is the lead sin in the list. When it
comes to the setting of Christians, they have a framework that is a fatal motivation, which gets
the sinners to forget the fallen state they are in. According to the Christians the humans are
fallen men from when they are born as they always have with them the taint of the original sin.
The man has much pride that he forgets that he shares the same sin as Eve and thus they need the
grace of God for them to get saved. They believe that it is only through Christ that one can get
saved and anyone who forgets it withdraws their path to salvation. The first sin that Faustus
commits is pride. It is through this pride that gave rise to sin as Faustus pride leads to him
committing other crimes.
For the similarities in the doctor Faustus and midsummer’s night dream there is the
element of sin. In Dr. Faustus, the play gets written as a tragedy. Dr. Faustus gets presented in
the story being a rebel against the morality oppression. This morality oppression is a traditional
view of sin that gets to condemn Faustus as he made a contract with Lucifer where they get to
exchange knowledge. In midsummer’s night dream sin is identified where there is love trouble.
Love is unpredictable and in many ways gets to inspire brutality when it is dissatisfied. It gets
well showed by Titania, Oberon, and the fairy king and queen and who are already fighting on
getting introduced. Oberon rebuffs Titania for her refusal to allow his impulse by entrancing her

into having intercourse to an ass is unconventionally unreasonable and mortifying (but,
obviously, extremely amusing). Mercilessness is a transgression in all structures.
To conclude I use the themes of love and ride to show the contrast I the two lays. I later
use the element of sin to show the similarities of the plays. It is an event that at some point the
movies get to touch on the Christianity edge. The themes are self-explained by the characters in
the play. At the end of the plays there is forgiveness.
