IMPACT OF NUSRSING THEORY ON HEALTHCARE ORGANIZATION 2
Impact of Nursing Theory on the Healthcare Organization
While dealing with administrative issues, it is common that several theories come to
mind. However, in the case, the theory that suits most is the Patricia’s Benner theory from novice
to expert. It is important to identify that the health care system is subject to evolution and
therefore, the challenges that nurses and the nurse leaders keep changing (Benner, 2011). The
nurses ought to manage the patient acuity levels and the rapid changes in the practices and
medical technology. When planning the staffing process for the staffs, it is important that the
administration integrates all the identifiable challenges. The nurse leaders, therefore, get to learn
than the process of skill acquisition is procedural from one step to another where one advances
from a novice to the expertise level.
Dr. Benner has categorized the nursing level into five levels; novice, expert, proficient,
advanced beginner, and competent (Fraley, 2016). The theory emphasizes the need for the
experience which allows the nurse leaders to expand their knowledge of the administrative
issues. Therefore, any nurse leader ought to be patient to help them improve their skills in the
ability to deal with the challenges that keep evolving as the levels of technology advances and as
the problems continue to increase. Therefore, the development of nursing competency requires
that the nurse leaders should practice and the clinical simulations process helped the nurses to
provide a safe environment and to structuring the learning experience. The application of
Benner’s theory is further extended to the nursing school curriculum, building, clinical ladders,
and in the development of mentorship programs.
The theory is realistic because it is based on lived experiences of being healthy and being
ill. An example that relates to the case study is when I had difficulties at the beginning of my
