• In what situation are you most likely to use impression management? What situation are
you most likely not going to work to use impression management? What is the typical
difference between these two situations?
I believe that one can apply impression management in several situations. If one is
undertaking a job interview and they seem to be underqualified for the job, they can decide to
talk themselves up to maximise the chance of being considered for the job. I believe the
above situation can best fit impression management however, it can backfire if it works. If
one manages to get the job, they are expected to understand, know, and finish tasks that they
may not know since they lied in the interview. In comparison, if one is at a restaurant with
friends and they see a girl they are interested in and they begin to make a small talk.
Depending on the personal intentions if one just needs company for that particular evening,
misrepresenting oneself can’t have an effect since they will not see her again.
• Provide an example of when you used impression management successfully. What was
the outcome and why?
I applied impressions management to acquire my most admirable and recent job. I
required a second job since my husband attends classes with an Auto Zone manager. I landed
on the job since he explained that they needed employees who were committed and ready to
work under extreme conditions. I resumed the job and found out that there was an additional
interview with the district manager. Despite having little knowledge and experience with the
parts of a car it was simple enough for me since I talked myself up in the additional interview
and gave a suggestion of managing a higher level. I suggested that given the mandate, I could
work as a commercial manager on the basis of full time. The district manager was happy and
impressed of my suggestion and the way I could handle the questions. After working for 4
