and should be addressed in that manner (Boyatzis 5). All things with values in society are the
contribution of labor.
Some people assume that individual-level conflict should just be ignored since it affects
individuals and not many people (Rahim). Proponents of such views argue that some people get
themselves into such disputes knowingly. For example, someone who sets goals beyond his level
of achievement. They say such people drug themselves into problems and should be left alone.
These are however views of people without knowledge in sociology.
Sociologists, however, argue that individual-level conflict is a social problem that cannot
be overlooked. An individual is a member of a community that cannot stand socially without
individuals who play pivotal roles in the society. An organization is a perfect example of a city in
which every single employee matters concerning the success of the company. When an
employees’ social problem is not addressed properly and in time, the organization will be
affected. Such conflicts can be of benefit (Druckman 77). Still, the benefit can be achieved only
with a proper understanding of individuals working in an organization. For example, to keep an
organization’s workforce happy, employees should be offered paid leaves. Gaining a proper
understanding of problems faced by individuals is a perfect way of solving such problems. It is
therefore imperative for managers to gain a deep understanding of individuals (Druckman 25).
Theory of conflict states that tension, as well as conflict, erupts when status, resources,
and power are not evenly distributed in the society. These will propel social change which will
cause the battle. The sociological causes and effects of conflict should be addressed when either
solving or reducing individual disputes. Maintaining individuals’ comfort and ensuring that their
levels of self-esteem are high are factors that help in solving individual and other types of
conflict.
