business leaders. It demands awareness of the employees’ personalities and perceptions that may
influence management decisions. Managers should seek feedback aimed at improving their
competence and accept self-awareness. Proper and effective management of individuals’
attitudes including behavior, thoughts and feelings is a critical aspect of management that every
organizational leader should adopt.
I learnt the role of organizational commitment and its contribution to success in business.
It essence, it promotes loyalty and dedication to diverse roles among stakeholders in the
management team. Besides organizational commitment, I appreciate the role of organizational
citizenship. It is the great feeling of contribution to effective success of the organization. Best
practice in management demands an effective way to addressing conflicts and attitudes among
employees. A key aspect is cognitive dissonance that results from behavior and attitude
disagreements. Dealing with perception distortions is critical to promoting organizational

success. Particularly, it is important to address perception distortions that result from
stereotyping and the halo effects.
Every manager experiences challenges. The best way to address organizational
challenges is to adopt the best styles. Four styles are applicable in solving problems at the
organization: sensation-thinking, intuitive-thinking, sensation feeling, and intuitive-feeling. It is
imperative to manage individuals’ emotions at work that have potential influence on their
attainment of goals. I learnt the fundamental role of emotional intelligence that managers must
adopt to review the feelings expressed by other individuals in the organization. Another major
challenge to the management of every organization is stress management. Understanding the
different types of behavior is imperative to stress management. Ambiguity of roles and
interpersonal demands are key among the causes of workplace stress that managers must address.
Managers should ensure minimum role conflicts and employment continuity. In cases when
stress threatens to compromise organizational success, it is imperative to managers to identify the
causes, mediate to find a solution and set long-term measures to promote it is management. It is
encouraged to ensure a work-life balance through, making work fun, ensuring stress intervention,
and promoting wellness programs.
Leading can be a challenge, especially when it demands the management of a large
population of employees. Knowledge acquired from the course was imperative to inform diverse
ways to influence individuals to achieve diverse goals. Contemporary leadership approaches
demonstrate a tactic to effective strategies of leadership based on different circumstances.
Managers should understand the unique situations to apply the different leadership approaches:
level 5 leadership, servant leadership, authentic leadership, and interactive leadership.

Power and influence can be used as a tool to not only advance organizational success but
also cause detrimental challenge to such success. Power can be applicable in influencing other
individuals’ behavior at the organization’s level and beyond. Influence, however, refers to the
implications that an individual’s attitudes and values have on that of others’ both in the
organization and beyond. Managers should uses their position power to promote organizational
performance. They can also use their personal power as experts to promote innovativeness at the
organization. Managers’ efforts, networks in the professional bodies and access of information
are among other sources of power. All, when used efficiently, are invaluable to promote
organizational success.
Every organization has constant demand for team efforts and group projects to attain its
goals. Managing teams and groups, however, presents eminent challenges to most individuals in
contemporary workplaces. Effective management is important to promote the adoption of
innovative ideas and creativity at the organization. Group work and team efforts cause improve
quality attainment when undertaking organizational success. Through group work and team
efforts, employees can respond to urgent responsibilities or ensure speedy response to emergency
concerns. Combines team efforts promote high levels of productivity compared to individuals
undertaking tasks independently. Motivations rise when employees undertake tasks in teams;
teamwork offers a learning environment from where individuals share ideas and compare
viewpoints.
Teams and groups, however, may be subject to diverse dysfunctions. The lack of trust is a
major dysfunction that may hamper the success of teams. When a section of team members
display lack of commitment or when they shy from sharing their viewpoints that would work to
promote productivity, the team is likely to fail. Teams should be accountable, collectively, for

the actions of their members. When such accountability, however, cease to exist, the team is
likely to experience a dysfunction. The team should be attentive to results, without which they
are most likely to fail in their ultimate goals. It is important to manage team conflicts in a manner
that would reduce communication breakdowns, create trusts among group members, and bridge
any goal differences that are notable among members. Diverse principles are applicable when
solving group conflicts. First, mangers should separate members from the problem that have
occurred. Second, the group’s interest should be the point of focus when resolving group
problems. Third, it is imperative to listen to members’ concerns and inquire any ambiguity to get
full information necessary to resolve group problems.
Finally, the class enabled me to appreciate the changes and transformations that
distinguish conventional from contemporary management approaches. Contemporary
management approaches are characterized by flexibility that influences how individual
employees, teams and groups schedule their roles. Collaboration in contemporary workplaces
has become specifically easier and faster than in the past because of the improvements in
technology. Individuals can interact and collaborate on diverse platforms in contemporary
settings than they could before in conventional settings of management. Employees and groups
are more agile to embrace innovation in contemporary settings than before.
