Introduction

Inequality has been a significant threat for the United States in its efforts to address common

challenges facing the American people including the adverse effects of capitalism and climate

change. White supremacy is mainly responsible for polarization and continued heated debate on

the best approaches to tackling common challenges such as economic crisis brought about by

contention between the Whites and minority groups. The idea of white superiority has also led to

the marginalization of the blacks and other minority groups in the US. The impacts of wealth

creation and poverty in the neoliberalism have tangible economic consequences including

diminishing prospects of home ownership, paycheck as well as in addressing the effects of

climate change on the country (Naomi, 128). The effects of climatic changes include frequent

flooding, hurricanes, poor health among the people among others things. Therefore, the purpose

of this research paper is to discuss remedies for treating common challenges facing the

Americans in light of the white supremacy.

Application differential tax measures are one of the most effective approach is addressing

economic problems facing a country. “Policies like luxury taxes should be put in place to

discourage wasteful consumption.” It is one of the possible remedies in addressing economic

challenges brought about by the notion of white supremacy. The taxes should target the

consumptions patterns that taken to give the emergence of social stratification in the society.

Additionally, heavy taxation of production processes that do not take into consideration the need

to utilize clean energy is critical in moving the country toward a green economy (Naomi, 138).

Thus, remarkable contributions to the reduction in the rapid climatic change. Similarly, the

American society has remained racially polarized making it difficult to effectively address

common issues in the country “...the challenge of differentiation has largely been ignored”. It is

imperative to note that currently, in as much as the Blacks and other minority races are suffering

from the adverse effects of climate change; the whites are also facing similar problems. The

impact of climate change including frequent incidences of hurricanes affect both the whites and

minority races alike (Naomi,124). Similarly, the implications of pollution including poor health,

due to production processes that are not eco-friendly, are affecting every American regardless of

their racial backgrounds. Moreover, Americans irrespective of the race, pay billions of dollars in

addressing the challenges brought about by climate change including emergency services to

those affected by such events. Therefore, it is essential for both levels of the government in

collaboration with policymakers to formulate and implement a universal policy of differential

taxation that apply to every American in addressing the problem of global warming.

Inequality and poverty are the most significant challenges facing America as a country.

“…We have a system that has been working overtime to move money from the bottom and the

middle to the top, but the system is so inefficient that the gains to the top are far less than the

losses to the middle and bottom...” The wealth creation and distribution are some of the major

causes of the problems bedeviling the United States. The trend in rising inequalities in the

country is a huge threat to economic growth and development. The wealthy class represents an

insignificant portion of the population as compared to the middle and low-class citizens.

Normally, the wealthy segment of the American population ends amassing up to one-fifth of the

country’s income leaving the lower and middle-income earners with no significant amount to

invest and achieve economic prosperity (Stiglitz, 233). As a consequence, American economic

system is bound to dwindle with rising inequality, leading to the possibility of worse

consequences including the inability of the government to effectively address matters of national

interests such as global warming and the downsides of capitalism in the country. According to

Stiglitz (2012), inequality has far-reaching consequences on the growth of the economy, and it

should be addressed promptly to facilitate meaning economic growth and development in the

country. Normality, inequality is largely brought about by racial discrimination as well as

ineffective economic policies. On the other hand, Klein depicts some economic policies that

further worsen the problem of inequality “…As the free trade system was put in place and

producing offshore become the rule of law, emission did more move-they multiply…” The

capitalistic nature of American society has led to more harm than good; the nation is skewed

towards wealth creation at the expense of the health of the citizen (Naomi, 136). Capitalism is

anchored on maximum production at the lowest cost without considering the adverse impacts of

climate change. Non-renewable energy sources are still hurting Americans regarding the

increased environmental pollution. Most of the industrialist have ignored the call to embrace

green production processes. As a consequence, most of the production practices are more likely

to worsen the challenges Americans are facing including climate change. As capitalism

intensifies, there will be the emission of more carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, thus, further

escalating changes in the weather patterns. The burning of fossil fuels, non-renewable energy

sources, and other production processes are at the heart of rapid changes in the climate. The

poor lower class are exploited in a bid to create more wealth (Naomi,123). Therefore, it is

imperative to note that inequality and poverty have continued to be the main contributors to the

current phenomenon as far as climate change is concerned.

Renting seeking behavior is one of the biggest threat to economic growth, attainment of

freedom and fair competition in the society. “...we have a political system that gives inordinate

power to those at the top, and they have used that power not only to limit the extent of

redistribution but also to shape the rules of the game in their favor…” Businesspeople and

influential people in the different administration have continued to conspire in formulating and

implementing laws that advance their interest at the expense of economic benefit for all

Americans. Rent seeking efforts leads to the reduced creation of wealth in the economy through

the transfer of incomes (Naomi, 123). The interplay between economic factors in the business

environment has significantly worsened the global of the issue of climate change. Globalization

has also been at center stage in the ever-deteriorating climatic conditions. Different countries

conspire in promoting their respective economic interest at the greater expense of environmental

conservation. For instance, most of the business companies have moved their operation bases in

China to tap into a cheap source of labor and other benefits. The long-term impacts include

mushrooming of factories emitting pollutant gases into space. In the US, for instance, the impact

of lobby groups and other key stakeholders in the business community have continued to mount

pressure on the political class with the hope of manipulating trade and production policies. In

some cases, political dynamics lead to either reduction or an increase in rent-seeking. Attaining

proper balance in the rent-seeking requires concerted efforts from all stakeholders and citizens as

well. According to Coates (2017), politicians have greater roles as far as rent-seeking and

economic growth are concerned. “…Understanding politicians’ embracing a self-serving identity

politics…” The politicians use the whites to achieve political mileage. The Business

communities which are primarily made of the whites manipulates the political class in passing

laws that favor their economic interests with no regard to the need for protection of the

environment. The lobby group pass laws that subjugate the financial benefit of the racial

minority groups including participation in business activities. For instance, the recent elections in

the US have seen candidates for presidency having to contend with pressures coming from

different quotas in the society. The long-term effects have been increased production and

business processes that do not put premiums on the need to transform to a green economy to

prevent further deterioration of climatic conditions (Coates,74 ). Therefore, it clear how renting

seeking behavior and political struggle have continually frustrated the concerted efforts aimed at

minimizing global warming and its impacts on the society.

Conclusion

Therefore, it is imperative to note that inequality has remained a significant setback in the

concerted efforts in the management of the common problems the US is facing including global

warming and the adverse effects of capitalism. The differential tax system is of one of the useful

measure critical in addressing the impacts of pollution as a result of the non-green production

process. Moreover, inequality and poverty are also significant factors to be considered in

tackling climatic changes and downsides of capitalism in the community. The creation and

distribution of wealth involving exploitation of poor lower and middle class leading to increasing

inequality which is also frustrating the fight against common challenges in the country. Most

importantly, renting seeking behaviors among lobby groups and key stakeholders in the business

sector impede the formulation and implementation of effective business policies and laws for the

protection and conservation of the environment for long-term benefits. Thus, the above

mentioned solutions can be effective remedies in addressing the challenges partially associated

with white supremacy battle.
