Into the woods are a musical and the lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, which originated in

San Diego in 1986 in the old globe theatre and was premiered in 1987. The most excellent idea

The story of into the woods is a play by the award-winning Stephen Sondheim, and

James Lapine is a rare current classic. The play is a musically sophisticated show with the

chance to present actors skillful at the dark comedy. One of the most prominent technical

features of the production I noticed was the creativity. The use of the Shower curtains as the

prognosis shades to beautifully portray the various locations indicated in the story. The

production supports also gave an extra charming air to the show particularly the bird. The use of

the paintings and the made-up landscapes were set into the screens to present the mystical wools

in reality. Moreover, through behind the scenes walks, the production sets the characters to

appear as shades whose sizes varied based on the projection distance, skillful ways to depict the

giant. Another exceptional feature of the show was the costumes by the technical team that was

created from the bottom up to the top to enable every character's wardrobe to appear magical and

challenging, and I enjoyed how the creativity in the play was done.

Secondly, I was able to identify the play had a simple language, and that was easy to

understand, although some were the contemporary dialects like “what’s up” that was used by one

of the princes. The play language is also in music that is used by the producer to display the

characters of the play. The music is in spoken word, and the breaks and the speech of each

character are delivered through a particular rhythm and a secure melody that precedes the normal

speech rhythm and composed as a verbal. Just like the standard productions, Sondheim songs

comprise of the supposed- process story where the actors are allowed to think and dialogue

allowed. Songs like the mystery of the woods are used to summarize the musical and has a

message.

Question 3

Into the woods is based on a fairy tale that is full of emotions and themes such the anxiety

and the chances. The storyline begins with stories of ‘I wish’ and the characters such as the

magic beans and the Red girl. In the real context, the producer has developed an occasionally

superficial but also a skillful way of evaluation the visions and the risks of fulfilling them. The

shadowy woods are a symbolic zone where anything may occur no matter the cost. The beginner

line “Begins to sound threatening, creating a chance to the risks that emerge the whole kingdom

destruction of the final act. Risks involve the adults and children. The story begins with

characters such as Cinderella who are a bit aware of the outcomes of their wishes. Every

character gets to understand that they must pass by the woods to attain their wishes but they have

to experiences challenges that are personal and are only to accomplish their desired through

facing their sincere doubts through courage and unseen resources. Act 1 ends with all the

narrative lines connecting, and everyone has e their wishes to “Live happily ever after and a

song. The second part shows what occurred and all have to go back into the woods to find the

solution to repercussions of their wishes hence the proverb ‘be careful what you wish for”. The

Cinderella’s world is turned upside down from her desire to escape her dreary life of hard work

to attend the king’s celebration. The happily ever after is not what Cinderella experiences in her

marriage.

Bakers wife is tricked into killing his husband due to her desires for the prince; she later

watches him speak of the attributes that she uses to describe her husband after realizing he was a

better Prince than the prince himself and begins to regret. The other theme that depicts the real

world is family relations. Relationship with parents and children is an essential factor in shaping

the life of a person. In the play, Cinderella apart from being an orphan has no substantial

connection with her father and later realizes that all the consequences are related to the husband.

Jack is feeling isolated and lacks the affection of the mother, a representation of the modern

world dysfunctional family due to the absence of the mother's love; In return, she dedicates all

his love to the cow whom he believes provides comfort and understanding similar to his mother

Lastly, the characters in the musical are a comedy the actors are the real imagery of the

human’s encounters an expression that is the wolf, the witch and giant and musical. The

characters in the play indicate the role of each person in the community. Baker can identify that

the Red Ridinghood might be in trouble yet the witch convinces them otherwise yet they are

indeed in trouble with the wolf. Their selfish ventures affect the whole community like

convincing jack to trade his cow for beans. The consequence that are following the plays is due

to the individual pursuit of what they believe only suits them without thinking of the

consequences it has such as deaths and regrets. Bakers wife is also consumed by the lust and

couldn’t control her feelings towards the prince, ends up hurting everybody in her pursuit to have

children and blindly following the witch.
