IPhone 8 versus Samsung Galaxy S8

The release of the iPhone 8 by Apple Company has led to the biggest smartphone battle

with other phone designs such as Samsung Galaxy S8 (Janeczko, 2017). Both phones have high-

end stunning features that have created a stiff competition between the two products (Coull &

Dyer, 2014). They come from different worlds but come as great rivals not only through their

operating systems but also their infinity displays, and other features. This essay will compare the

two phones on different grounds such as design, performance, display, value and high-end

features and establish the one that is better than the other.

In design, iPhone 8 comes with a glass back that makes it look stylish and different form

its predecessors (Coull & Dyer, 2014). However, it is identical with the iPhone 7 that is

successes. The similarity in front appearance with the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 plus makes the

phone look old-fashioned considering the thick bezels on its side (Coull & Dyer, 2014).

Conversely, Samsung Galaxy boasts an infinity display that stretches from end to end and with a

sexy curve (Hughes, B. (2017). The curved emolded display that seamlessly melts into the

metallic back makes the phone comfortable to hold and use (Janeczko, 2017). It is sleek and

easy to use with a single hand even if the display is 5.8 inch as opposed to the IPhone 8 which

with a smaller screen, 4.7 inch but a real stretch to use using a single hand (Hughes, B. (2017).

Though bigger in size, Samsung Galaxy S8 is lighter than iPhone 8. Both smartphones offer a

water resistance feature. However, iPhone 8 achieves that through a sealed design as opposed to

the Samsung Galaxy S8 which does not sacrifice even the headphone jack (Hughes, B. (2017).

Therefore, Samsung Galaxy S8 is designed well than its rival, the iPhone 8.

In display, the latest smartphone technology reserves an OLED screen as the best display

a smartphone can have (Hughes, B. (2017). It is characterized by a wide angle of view and more

saturated colors. Samsung Galaxy S8 boasts the latest a large 5.8 inch display with an OLED

screen as opposed to the iPhone 8 that has a 4.7 inch LCD display (Coull & Dyer, 2014).

Samsung Galaxy S8 has more than 180% color Gamut as opposed to its rival, iPhone 8 with a

color gamut ranging from 119-125% (Hughes, B. (2017). The two smartphones compete neck to

neck in color accuracy of less than 1 where zero was regarded perfect. However, Samsung

Galaxy S8 produces sharper images courtesy of its higher resolution of 2960 X 1440 pixels as

opposed to its rival, iPhone 8 which despite its smaller screen size, has a lower resolution of

1334 X750 pixels (Hughes, B. (2017). For that reason, the display of Samsung S8 is better than

that of iPhone 8.

In special features, Apple is finally incorporated wireless charging into its device, the

iPhone 8, a feature that has been offered by Samsung for years (Hughes, B. (2017). However,

the Samsung Galaxy S8 boasts a fast wired charging system as an alternative to the wireless

changing. Sumsang Galaxy S8 is one of the rare smartphones that can allow the user to run two

applications side by side courtesy of the Multiwindow feature (Janeczko, 2017). It has a Bixby

personal assistant which enables the user to accomplish a wide range of tasks such as Gear VR,

voice recognition among others which turns the smartphone into a mini PC (Hughes, B. (2017).

On the contrary, iPhone 8 does not offer many features but hits its own level of personal

assistance through online picture editing, reality applications and its Siri is more polished (Coull

& Dyer, 2014). However, Samsung Galaxy S8 wins again in the battle of extra features.

In performance, iPhone 8 is at its top speed with the A11 Bionic Chip as opposed to the

Qualcomm Snapdragon 835, the fastest android chip that powers the Galaxy S8 (Coull & Dyer,

2014). For instance, iPhone 8 takes less than a minute to edit a video as opposed to the Galaxy

S8 which takes more than 4minutes. IPhone 8 also boasts of the best Camera which takes better

pictures in different light conditions than its rival, the Galaxy S8 (Janeczko, 2017). It has a

larger optical zoom of 2X which cannot which is way ahead of the Samsung smartphone.

IPhone 8 is cheaper than its competitor (Coull & Dyer, 2014).

In conclusion, both Samsung Galaxy S8 and iPhone 8 are nice phones which compete

neck to neck in specifications. However, Samsung Galaxy S8 can be considered a better

smartphone over iPhone 8 because of its sexier design and large 5.8 inch as compared to its rival

with a 4.7 inch screen that makes it look old-fashioned and antiquated. The ability to multitask

using the Samsung smartphone, its comfort when holding and numerous features has seen it sell

more in the market than iPhone 8 despite its higher value. Samsung Galaxy S8 is better than

iPhone 8.
